HC that Kirk is a great cook/baker but never really gets to showcase that skill cause his quarters [unlike Pike's] doesn't have a massive fucking kitchen he can play around in.

But the thing that draws him the most is old rationing recipes from the great depression. This man was on Tarsus where he nearly died from starvation, ofc he'd be super good at cooking with barely anything.

He also [imo] would also be super good at picking up clues as to if a plant is edible or not and likes to play that game in his head as he looks around planets as Spock goes around doing whatever he does with his tricorder.

And Spock and Bones don't know shit about these skills of his until they're all stranded somewhere and Kirk just cooks nonchalantly and the other two just look either [in Bones' case] bewildered and [in Spock's case] mildly baffled that their captain can just make 3 reasonably sized portions out of NOTHING.

Prompt: Wrapped up Valentine Day Gift for our favorite boys.

James T. Kirk

When you said that you have a surprise for him this Valentine's he was nervous but excited.

He had tried to make each Valentine's Day special, one year he even surprised you in bed by wearing a very sexy pair of yellow lingerie.

But this year you were going to surprise him!

He practically runs to your shared quarters and has to hold himself back as he knocks on the doors.

When he walks in and sees you sitting on his bed, wrapped up in a thick red ribbon with a comically large tag that reads: To Kirk

He can't help but chuckle slightly. His face is bright red. This has always been a bit of a fantasy for him.

He's pulling at his collar and stuttering slightly.

"You, you - This is quite a surprise."

He saunters up to you trying to be seductive but you can tell he's just too excited.

He gently pulls at the ribbon wrapped around your torso.

You feel his breath tickle your ear as he leans in and whispers.

"I can't wait to unwrap you."

S'Chn T'Gai Spock

When you said that you have a surprise for him this Valentine's he was skeptical.

He had tried to understand the meaning of the holiday but to show such affection openly was not what Vulcans did. So he often would give you a bouquet of flowers and read some kind of sentimental poetry when you were alone.

However, at the end of his shift, he is curious about what you have planned.

He walks a few paces faster than normal back to your shared quarters. He even skips a little.

When he walks in and sees you sitting on his bed. His face flushes the same shade of green as the ribbon you're wrapped in.

He tries to keep his composure but you look so tempting to him. He isn't used to this sudden feeling.

He gasps slightly as you slyly shift your position to a more sultry pose.

"My wife, are you in the stages of your pon farr?"

You giggle and gesture for him to come closer.

He willingly approaches and reaches his hands out to you. He runs his fingers over your exposed skin and silk thread.

He then gently cups your face feeling your want and desire for him. You see him, just briefly, crack a small smile.

"I shall be as gentle as I can, however, I can not guarantee you will go blemished."

Leonard McCoy

When you said that you have a surprise for him this Valentine's he was suspicious.

He had tried to do something nice for Valentine's Day before but it never seemed to go as planned.

He was curious and enjoyed the idea of you surprising him.

He seems to be in a better mood through most of his shift. He expects something quiet like a nice candlelit meal and dancing.

He's completely gobsmacked when he walks into your shared quarters.

He feels like a teenager seeing a (beautiful boy / gorgeous girl / perfect partner) in their bed for the first time.

He clamps his hand over his mouth because it is about to fall on the floor.

"I didn't know you'd go all out, aren't I just the luckiest man alive."

You giggle and puff your chest out tempting him to pull the bow.

He skips the bow and gently cups your face, giving you a strong sweet kiss.

His other hand trails down the ribbon and pulls at it slightly teasing you.

"I feel bad not getting you anything, but I'll show you how much I appreciate you."

Extra Holiday Special:

Quad

They were confused when you said that you had a surprise for them.

You had them scratching their heads all day.

On the turbolift ride down to your shared quarters the three of them talked about what you might have planned.

Kirk seems to be excited while McCoy and Spock are still trying to figure out what you've done.

They find their quarters empty until they hear music coming from the bedroom.

When they see you Kirk and McCoy are completely shocked, while Spock raises an eyebrow.

Kirk quickly goes from shock to excitement.

McCoy is still trying to process what is going on.

And Spock is still holding his cold stone exterior complemented by a bright green blush.

"You naughty (boy, girl, thing)."

"Who gets to unwrap them first?"

"This is quite a display ashal-veh."

The three basically fight over who gets what, it's kind of cute.

Spock leads the charge by approaching you first.

Kirk practically rips his own shirt off.

McCoy is trying to pick a fight with Spock on who gets to go first.

"Best gift I've ever received."

"Next time, he'll want us to do this."

"I am not opposed to such an idea."

Thoughts on aftg/star trek?

oh god. so many!

vulcan andrew. he fits the mold pretty well, except for the violence. I could see him similar to spock in that case, a half vulcan, which would add to the way hes kind of seen as an unpredictable character by the upperclassmen -- working with the idea that people who are both terran and vulcan dont fit perfectly into easy behavior stereotypes. im thinking a lot about the pocket book "mindshadow" where spock's "inconsistencies" get expored. in an aftg to tos recast, id put him as spock.

that brings me to neil, who i think in said recast is a really solid kirk. There's this one tumblr post by @/na-nanu talking about kirk's alienation, and one line that has stuck with me ever since i read it: "Kirk, while personable, is a fairly Vulcan human." this strikes me as so so neil. until they really get to know him better, the upperclassmen tend to read neil in opposition to andrew. neil, to those outside, is the more personable of the two, the one who feels. as we all know, neil and andrew are incredibly similar -- which is why i referenced that quote just now. like kirk, neil takes andrew as he is, and never asks for more than he can give.

more kirk qualities: neil is ride or die (literally) for his team, self-sacrificing and quick-witted. he's not afraid to lie or trick his way into getting what he wants. lets be honest, both of these men love a good ruse.

going back to andrew for a moment, the way andrew is talked about as unfeeling and monstrous rings a very similar bell to the way terrans talk about vulcans and their lack of emotional display. kirk can read spock better than anyone, sound familiar?

this gets its own bullet point because i dont know where to put it. not all of my thoughts on aftg/st are so matchy-matchy (like, trying to make things line up), but i think the episode "The Enemy Within" and Neil-Nathaniel-Only-One-Of-Them-Can-Survive-Both-Of-Them-Want-To-Live have got some interesting similarities. Nathaniel dying in that basement too, and such.

I feel like people might want to cast Kevin as McCoy, because of McSpirk, and how they're the main trio. but because of Spock and Bones' frequent disagreements, similarities, and general vibes i really see him as Aaron, who's more explosive then Kevin when it comes to Andrews apathy. Bones and his wife and kid back home are also kind of Katelyn-esque.

renee and uhura... i think that this parallel works if spock/andrew, vulcan andrew what have you, is at the core of this thing. theres a lot of similarities for everyone, but god. he's the reason i'm even thinking about tos and aftg together. the "unlikely" friendship, everyone thinking they have a thing, bonding over a shared activity (but its music instead of beating the shit out of each other)

i can really imagine andrew getting into star trek. its a really good "what if?" show that i think he'd enjoy, given his feelings on the zombie apocalypse. renee could definitely get into the morality aspect as well. i can see them talking about the questions in the epsodes, like "so what would you do if your evil clone tried to take over the ship?" and the like. Andrew seeing himself in Spock, seeing someone who also can only deal with his emotions on the lowest volume, and him being loved nonetheless. Maybe seeing a little bit of his not-boyfriend-nothing Neil in Kirk.

another thing about spock/andrew. they are both surprisingly open! I'd have to go back and look to find the exact post, but someone made a great post about how kirk is actually not that forthcoming about his past/life, while spock, if you literally just ask him, will tell you a lot! this i think is hilariously similar to neil being seen as the more open one, when he is actually so cagey and full of false pasts, while andrew will answer most questions. people just never seem to ask (until neil, ofc).

There's definitely more where this came from, so ill add on to this later, but im battling a bit of a headache right now and need to end it here. Thank you so so much for the ask, im excited to hear what you think!!!!!!!!

State of the Archive

Our archive’s header has been updated thanks to enabling by @solarisone. >.> I don’t know anything about that.

In more serious news, we’ve had an incredibly busy week! As you can see below, we’ve had a lot of new people join us, bringing over stories to archive. We’ve had some new faces on our chat server starting with a D, too! I’ve added some community resources under the Community Toolbox FAQ. If you’re planning on joining us, please read the tagging/posting FAQs/Rules, as we are very much not AO3 about that.

All in all, the archive is running well. I’ve got kudos up and working correctly, finally, and while we still have some minor annoyances (the times/dates populating incorrectly on dashboards or browsing pages), everything’s running stable right now and should continue to indefinitely.

There is still a Review Hunt going on until the end of the month: A chance to win art or cash! Right now, Gibraltar and DavidFalkayn are the only participants, come give them a run for the money!

Weekly Challenge #9 - Juneteenth

i think the funkiest thing is that i’m having davey follow the spock route (half vulcan/human)…. but i’m having him be raised on earth instead of vulcan. bc i like making this man feel as displaced as possible at all times. also! jack has never been to his home planet, ever. like he’s bounced through starbases all his life (since starfleet/the federation is the ‘new york’ and the concept of ‘origin and home’ is santa fe). so they are gonna be some fun foils

crutchie is older than jack in this ofc cause it just. he’s gotta be. he’s the native new yorker of the au and it’s a very important trait for him (akin to mccoy’s country doctor vibe). was also gonna make him southern but it’s juuust. too mccoy

race, actually, i am kind of giving. a chris pine 2009 vibe. i also don’t think he is supposed to be on the ship, and that’s going to be a fun to write once race’ssss secret is discovered….

"And he was so stubborn - well, you know what he's like - that I just had to do something about it. I lunged for him, and it's been the longest time, but he actually fell to the floor, laughing." Jim chuckled, as the lift slid, whirring sleekly between floors. "I really shouldn't be telling you this, he'd kill me."

"Laughing, captain?" Spock questioned with a straight face, the slightest cock to one eyebrow.

"Really, Spock. I'd bet you can hardly imagine our good doctor cracking a smile, never mind a laugh," Jim grinned, laughing more.

"Why laughing, captain?" Completely glossing over the latter remark, Spock remained curious.

Jim started as if to reply in humour before stopping short and turning to his Vulcan friend with a look of curiosity himself.

"Well - laughing, Spock. He was laughing because I tickled him, that's why."

The eyebrow came back down surprisingly fast.

"Ah yes. That most human of phenomena," Spock said, clasping his hands behind his back.

"Well it's not just human, Spock - all kinds of Earth animals are prone to it. But yes, I'll give you it is a bit unusu-" and at this moment, Jim looked at his friend anew. "Are you telling me Vulcans don't have this?"

"Would you be surprised, captain?" Spock answered, eyes on the elevator floor.

"Yes, I suppose not..." Jim looked pensive, and then the doors opened.

The two men walked along the corridor, eventually coming to the captain's quarters. The doors whisked open to let them enter.

Once inside, Kirk paced near the small desk area.

"Now Spock, with regards to the last mission, I think we really need to get our reports coherent to each other before we submit to Starfleet."

"Agreed. I can give you a detailed overview-"

Jim suddenly interrupted. "I'm sorry Spock, I just - is there really no tickling on Vulcan? Not even the children?"

Spock thought for a moment before he answered. "It is... abnormal."

"A-HA! So there is ticklishness in vulcans then?"

"... somewhat, yes."

"So it's the children? And you, what - grow out of it?"

"Vulcan children are born much like human children - they have many of the same traits. However we are raised and trained very differently. We learn to process all physical sensations, logically, from a very young age. Most parents, as I'm sure will be obvious, do not indulge in the practice. It is, illogical."

Jim's face fell. But then, "most parents?" He looked up with a glint in his eye. "What about yours?"

Spock locked eyes with his captain, one eyebrow cocked in a way that gave Jim a distinct feeling that he was in some way being defied.

"I had a vulcan father, and a human mother. My parents were not 'most parents.'"

"So you have experienced it! Something in that really - well - really tickles me, I have to say!" Jim's face gleamed as he laughed.

Spock stood uncomfortably quiet, seeming to deliberate.

"Cheer up, Spock, I won't keep pestering you. At least you've grown out of it!"

Jim clapped his friend on the arm jovially, but the vulcan continued to focus thoughtfully at a point on the ground, as if thinking about something.

And then the penny dropped. Vulcans cannot lie.

"Or have you?"

Spock must have heard the change in the captain's voice, as his eyes bounced up to meet Jim's with a deep and guarded look.

"Are you ticklish, Spock?" Jim grinned.

"Decline to answer," Spock replied.

"Don't pinch me - that's an order, Mr. Spock."

"Do you intend to abuse your power as captain of this vessel, undoubtedly loosing your rank and career in Starfleet, simply to test your hypothesis, captain?"

"If that's what it takes to get you laughing, Mr. Spock."

This game of cat and mouse continued, the two taking a waltz of slow and careful steps around the room, ever just out of reach of one another.

Jim's face was enthused and predatory, a look often seen when faced with a challenge. Spock's was unreadable, his feeling unknowable, save only for the fact that he could easily have called everything off had he really wanted to.

Jim, sensing his chance, lunged. Spock, as always, had reflexes finely-trained, and jumped backwards to dodge the grasping fist, however Jim, anticipating this, went in after with a second arm. He caught a fistfull of his regulation uniform in his fingers, and yanked the taller man firmly towards himself.

Caught off guard, Spock stumbled forward, right into his captain's open-armed grasp. There was a beat in which Spock did nothing.

"We're about to find out if you really are still ticklish, Mr. Spock," Jim said, and clawed at his friend's stomach.

Immediately Spock went stiff, stood upright and then crashed backwards onto his ass, looking dazed. He curled around the fingers currently trying to tear into his soft front flesh, twisting a little this way and then that way with each wiggle of the digits.

Jim could not keep the smile from his face. Spock was squirming! He continued pinching at the first officer's stomach as well as throwing some in sporadically to the sides.

Spock had begun to shudder, his eyes clamped shut with the ghost of a smile tugging there and at his lips. Just when matters couldn't get worse, Jim suddenly used both hands to attack.

"Hahah!" Spock let slip a surprised laugh.

Everything stopped, and Jim took a moment to stare at his friend in wonder and delight, before saying carefully, "Spock?"

Spock remained unmoved from his position, eyes shut, body curled and statue-still, a half-smile still visible. He seemed unwilling to comment.

"Not got anything to say?"

Nothing.

"Oh..." Jim said, though his tone was still playful. "I guess not. Suppose you'd rather do something else instead? Like this!"

Jim dug in again with new vigour, this time pinching all along Spock's sides, and the vulcan was on the floor, turning from side to side with the widest smile imaginable, but he kept his mouth shut.

"Oh come on, Spock! Where's that laughter? I know you have it in you," Jim teased, grinning all the while.

Spock suddenly shook his head, the first he'd responded to any of this.

"No? You're not gonna let me hear it?" Jim took little pinches at his tummy again.

Spock shook his head again, convulsing.

"That's too bad. Guess I'll just have to continue."

By now Jim was straddling his first officer, using gentle pinches all over his upper body, but when he kneaded his fingertips into his lowest ribs, Spock practically leapt off the ground, and finally Jim found that laughter.

"C-captahahain!" He pleaded.

"Bad spot, Spock?"

"Ahah ahah hahahahaha!"

"I'm going to take that for a yes," Jim smiled triumphantly, kneading in even deeper, and Spock was beside himself. "Now that wasn't so hard, was it?"

Spock's hands had come down to wrap firmly around Jim's wrists, but so far had done nothing else.

"Remember your orders, officer," Jim put on his captain's voice through the hilarity.

At this, Spock seemed to deflate, arms and shoulders going limp as his hands loosened their grip and fell away.

"I'm impressed, Mr. Spock! But let's see how long you can hold out doing that."

Jim kept massaging those low ribs with his thumbs, using the other fingers to scratch at the sides, catching other ribs higher up. Spock acted as if electrocuted, his spasms unable to save him from the ticklish onslaught. His laughter had started deep but was getting higher.

Suddenly, Jims fingertips were moving down, exploring that expanse of waist that had come exposed during the struggling. His short nails scratched against the flat plain and Spock hit the roof.

"Hahaha!! N-no, captahahain!!" He bucked, only really succeeding in throwing himself further into the attack.

"Oh? Is it particularly bad here?" Jim grinned, giving it an extra good scratch, Spock pushing into it and shaking his head simultaneously.

"S-skihihin! Skihihin!!"

Jim looked down, and for the first time considered the skin-to-skin contact.

"Do you want me to stop?" He withdrew immediately, worried he might have gone too far.

Spock heaved some breaths, unable to engage right away. After a moment, he opened his eyes and looked directly into Jim's gaze. He looked there for a time, unreadable, and then, unbelievably, cocked an eyebrow and said, "captain, don't presume to think you have broken me. I assure you, it would take much more than anything you could provide to do so."

Jim's mouth fell open as he grasped for a response, but he quickly recovered enough to beam back at his first officer.

"You said, "no, stop", your words!"

"A reflex reaction, and unfortunate," replied Spock, as if he hadn't just a moment ago been completely undone.

Jim stammered, dumbfounded. "And what's all this about skin? I don't understand you."

"Ah. That. I..." And finally Spock was showing some shyness. "It opens a slight telepathic connection."

Jim beamed with the dawning realisation. "Ahhh, I see... And that makes it worse?"

Spock said nothing for a moment, and Jim now noticed the slightest of greenish colouration in his cheeks.

"I'm afraid nothing could be worse than your attempts to get more than a surface-level, knee-jerk reaction from me."

"My attempts?" Jim asked delicately, whether curious or offended, it was hard to tell. "Are you telling me my tickles didn't tickle enough?"

Spock simply tilted his head as if to agree, and that said it all. "I believe the earth-phrase says, 'if the shoe fits'."

Jim snapped his mouth shut and switched to his captain face.

"Where was that spot again... Oh, here," and he locked eyes with Spock as he touched his fingers onto the bare skin. "You'll regret that, Spock, I promise you. Can you feel what I'm thinking? Can you see it?"

Spock said nothing, but the nervous look behind his eyes, the green in his cheeks and the tension like electricity radiating through his skin let Jim know the message was getting through.

"Are you ready to give me some more of those wonderful reflex reactions?"

Laughter filled the room once more as Jim got to work, undoing his vulcan.

I wish there was a closed captions mode that only captioned dialogue, not sound. The sound captions can be rather annoying if you are hearing and don't need them, but you also can't delete them for the people who are hard of hearing or deaf.

Watching Star Trek TOS: an actual storyline for a woman then a sexbot, we can't have it all

The Conscience of the king

Can you believe we finally get a storyline for a woman character in 17 episodes and it's this: she murders 7 men, unbeknownst to her father, to protect him from being sentenced for ordering to execute 4000 people? And she still flirts with Jim

I enjoy how the episode makes Jim reflect on his own position and power and the decisions he has to make, but some things don't make sense to me. Why does he hesitate so much? Who cares about eye witnesses or his memory when they have actual photos?? Then there was 2 assassination attempts, what are they waiting for? Confine the guy and/or the whole company and that's it.

I felt like we didn't see enough of the father/daughter relationship for her behaviour to really make sense.

I liked Spock going to McCoy to discuss the captain's strange behaviour

"Did it ever occur to you that he simply might like the girl?"

"It occurred. I dismissed it."

"You would."

It's funny because Spock's right!

Riley's call to the rec room is cute! Uhura singing! I like scenes with the crew

Balance of terror

Aww Jim gets to marry two crewmembers! Oh no they're gonna die

I really liked this episode! It lacks the fun stuff and there's a lot of fighting but I liked the high stakes, the tension, the discussions about the possibility of starting a war, showing the Romulan side. And the emotion was there:

Bones' to Jim, my heart!

In this galaxy, there's a mathematical probability of three million Earth-type planets. And in all of the universe, three million million galaxies like this. And in all of that, and perhaps more, only one of each of us. Don't destroy the one named Kirk.

And ofc the homoerotic duel between Jim and the sexy Romulan commander, who has the best lines

He's a sorcerer, that one. He reads the thoughts in my brain.

I regret that we meet in this way. You and I are of a kind. In a different reality, I could have called you friend.

Look, the beginning was so funny and 100% what I'm here for:

Jim why would you think it okay for Spock to give you a massage on the bridge like that?? Plus Spock being a little shit about it

Jim at the academy was "grim" and picked on it's canon

But you know what is not my idea of fun? Jim spending a two-days vacation with an amusement/sex robot (or multicellular casting) who takes the appearance and identity of an ex-girlfriend of his ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ɴɪᴄᴋ ꜰᴜʀᴄɪʟʟᴏ ᴀᴛ ʜᴀʟʟᴏᴡᴇᴇɴ ʜᴇᴀᴅᴄᴀɴᴏɴꜱ (ft. Jacob and the counselors)

First of all, Nick is Australian. He probably grew up there, so even if every country know what is Halloween and some people celebrate, nobody does it like America.

So yeah, when he got to the states, he was a bit confused. He felt like Halloween was like a religion there. Sure, he got trick or treating with a few of his friends when they asked, but he never lived the full experience.

Enters Number #1 Himbo : Jacob Custos. He is DETERMINED to make Nick love Halloween as much as he does. It's his life goal since summer.

Nick won't admit it, because he feels like saying "I want to go trick or treating" makes him sound like a child, but he's really excited.

Jacob has this idea to throw a party at his house and to invite all the counselors, Laura and Max included. We all know how the last party went, so it took a lot of convincing they're still traumatized lmao but they all say yes.

Nick stayed closest to Jacob after the events of the summer. They kept in touch and texted frequently, hence how Jacob learned that he had never had a proper Halloween.

SO. Party at Jacob's ! As we know, Nick was the cook at camp, so of course he was the one who baked all the sweets and made the candies. It's insane how much work he put to make them scary. He looked at recipes for orange food and even asked Abi for scary cupcake icing ideas. He stays the day at Jacob's, who spent it decorating the house.

He even makes punch Jacob adds most of the alcohol, because he saw American teens drink it at parties.

The costumes. Oh boy the costumes. That's probably what he is the most excited about. He chose to go with Dracula. He isn't white but who cares, not all vampires are pale. The clothes look very classy on him.

Speaking of costume, everyone got a vibe check by Jacob when entering the house.

Abi is dressed as a witch, Emma as cat-woman. Jacob went full nasty and dressed as a Hot Nurse. Laura came as Frankenstein and Max as Shaggy from Scooby Doo it fits his vibe sm, fight me. Kaitlyn is a gremlin, Dylan is Mr. Spock and Ryan is a zombie. Before you ask, yes they are all hot.

Dylan wanted Nick to be Crocodile Dundee, Jacob wanted him to be a kangaroo. Nick said they were being racist. Jokingly ofc.

Whenever the door rings, Emma or Abi go to open the door. Nick always takes a sneak peek at the kids' reactions to his candies. They love it. He's very happy.

Finally, it's trick or treat time. Of course, Jacob, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Laura and Nick go. The other are either too happy or afraid to go. Max stays mostly to watch over them. He has that mom energy.

Jacob is ON FIRE. He drags Nick everywhere with him, and Nick is living. his. best. life. It's definitely way funnier than when he was a kid.

Then something happens. They ring a house's bell, and an old lady gives them fucking Peanut Butter Butterpops. One bag. Kaitlyn and Dylan burst out laughing, Laura is lost.

The contest is ON. Whoever has the fullest candy bag gets to keep the treasure.

They stay out until way too late. And maybe are too drunk.

Nick ends up again winning the contest. But because he's a kind boy and that the whole thing was Jacob's idea, they share the bag.

Pretends that his bag is so full of candies because he wanted to give them to Abi. It's a lie it was for the butterpops, but a man gotta keep a face.

Nick really enjoyed the night, his tummy will probably burst from the candies and the expired butterpops (pop pop pop 'em in your mouth !) and he can't wait for next year to do it all again.
