State of the Archive
Our archive’s header has been updated thanks to enabling by @solarisone. >.> I don’t know anything about that.
In more serious news, we’ve had an incredibly busy week! As you can see below, we’ve had a lot of new people join us, bringing over stories to archive. We’ve had some new faces on our chat server starting with a D, too! I’ve added some community resources under the Community Toolbox FAQ. If you’re planning on joining us, please read the tagging/posting FAQs/Rules, as we are very much not AO3 about that.
All in all, the archive is running well. I’ve got kudos up and working correctly, finally, and while we still have some minor annoyances (the times/dates populating incorrectly on dashboards or browsing pages), everything’s running stable right now and should continue to indefinitely.
There is still a Review Hunt going on until the end of the month: A chance to win art or cash! Right now, Gibraltar and DavidFalkayn are the only participants, come give them a run for the money!
Weekly Challenge #9 - Juneteenth
Our writing challenge this week is in honor of Juneteenth and is therefore the celebration of Black Star Trek characters. So, write a piece between 100 and 700 words in honor of the holiday and the amazing Black characters we’ve gotten from Trek over the decades and add it to our archive collection!

Hello! I have a random question. I know that authors aren’t supposed to read fanfic for their books, stories, etc. While reading one of your Star Trek books, I started wondering if that means you can’t read Star Trek fanfic for similar reasons or if it’s a different set of rules for a different situation.
First of all, in my case you're quite right: I don't read fanfic based in any of my fictional universes. Leaving aside the issue of possible legal exposure, I prefer to be certain that any material I write in my worlds is original with me, and doesn't (however inadvertently) owe anything to others working in the same fictional venues. It would really upset me to discover that I'd accidentally stolen something from a fan.
As for Trek: When I was writing Star Trek professionally, my agreement with my publishers was that I would not read Trek fanfic, as doing so could definitely expose them (and me) legally should I accidentally incorporate any material from fannish sources that I'd read.
That said: though I'm not writing Trek at the moment, there's no telling when, or under what circumstances, that might yet happen. So to be sure that I can still enter into such an agreement with a clear conscience, I still don't read Trek fanfic. (Yeah, it'd be a pleasure I'd be glad to indulge. But given the choice between reading unofficially-published Trekfic and writing the published kind, I'm afraid it's too late for me. I've been spoiled for decades; the second option's going to win every time. :)

When a piece of Federation technology is stolen, the crew of the Enterprise is left with only two choices - violate the Prime Directive or win it back.
This is an action/adventure buddy fic featuring the crew of the Enterprise. Under the command of Geordi La Forge, a small team must repair a decommissioned starship and survive a dangerous race across the Alpha Quadrant. Geordi races across the galaxy with Data, Tasha, Worf, Miles, and Wesley.
Meanwhile, Captain Picard, Commander Riker, Deanna, Doctor Crusher, and Keiko O'Brien uncover a plot to sabatoge the race on the ground.
Set in the same universe as "The Complication" but can be read as a standalone.
Mostly Geordi/Data shenanigans and Tasha/Worf friendship.

So Ad Astra’s otw-archive is now up and running, and opening for public beta! This was absolutely a labor of love and community; I owe Walter from SquidgeWorld and lassarina from Asp’s bar for the invaluable help in getting this massive thing sorted.
Before you join, here are a few things I really need and want you to know:
1.) We’re a Trek fandom archive, so we’re not really for any other fandoms unless they’re crossovers.
2.) We’re not AO3 when it comes to tagging fics. We’ve had strict tag discipline for fourteen years for a reason. So before you post, please -- please I’m begging -- read the FAQ about posting and tagging. Even if you skip the others (which, you shouldn’t, there’s some nifty stuff in them!), please read and respect that one.
3.) If you join, please don’t go too fast on moving all your Trek fanworks over? Only because I’m one single person wrangling this thing and because I really intend to visit each fic that lands on the archive to give it attention. I might fail in that goal, but I’d love to achieve it. Which brings me to the last point:
3.) Ad Astra’s shining quality has always been how interactive, collaborative and supportive we are as a community. So, consider joining in on that! Post your works and support others in theirs via comments and kudos. Shamelessly self-promote on your blogs or our forums, but consider also promoting others. Think about joining our forums and D/iscor/d, too, because we would love to have you. (Yes, you! You, that Trekkie over there side-eying me.) We do weekly writing challenges, and I’m planning on running a Review Hunt, too! This community shines its brightest when we’re lifting each other up.
4,) There are still bugs I’m working out. If you find one, tell me and I’ll see what’s going on! But it really is pretty functional in the meantime. XD

State of the Archive
Generally, still moving. We're still getting to the bottom of the issue that has a background process shutting down unexpectedly, but that's relatively minor and more annoyance than anything else. Especially for an archive our size. Things have been going great on Discord, with interesting discussions about future sociology, whether we do or don't like musicals and it's been great seeing new people come in, too! We're very welcoming, so stop on by!
