I was getting ready for a heritage celebration for graduation (I just completed my MSW) and was watching Bridgerton whilst getting ready. I am Filipino and I wore a Filipiniana to the celebration. You can not tell me that Penelope's sleeves are not giving Filipiniana. I cannot unsee it. Those Filipiniana sleeves are also known as butterfly sleeves. It's Penelope season of being a butterfly. Once again, I cannot find the stills I need from the intro titles with the butterfly coming out of the chrysalis, but here are evidence of the sleeves.

Those sleeves are starched to high heavens and shaped, you guessed, like a butterfly. Regency sleeves can be puffy. But they don't stand up and are typically rounded. Examples from painting from the era. (I do get that the designers are only referencing the period enough for audience to recognize it's a period drama reminiscent of the regency period.)

But then Filipinianas are those high puff and structure sleeves. The butterfly sleeves in a historical and modern styling.

Penelope's sleeves are giving me those iconic butterfly sleeves and I need to know if the costume designers did that on purpose. I rewatch the InStyle of interview with the designers and they did not say. I have questions!
