Violet to Colin: "You're one of my most sensitive children."

The fandom: "How can she say that! Anthony, Benedict bla, bla bla..."

Colin is ONE of her most sensitive children. ONE, just ONE of them. And she's right.

ONE OF HER MOST SENSITIVE CHILDREN

He was the only one who indulged Violet and let her introduce him to debutantes in s1, while Anthony fucked his mistress and Ben went to orgies.

He was a complete gentleman with Marina. AND defended her when Anthony implied something about her.

And when he learned the truth, he confessed that he would have married her if she had told him the truth. 🥹

He danced with Pen after Cressida bullied her.

He wrote dozens of letters that his family of 8 could not care to respond to often. There are 8 of them!

He worried about Ben in s2 and supported him on his application to the Academy.

He learned the truth of Jack Featherington and instead of simply leaving, he did something about it. Not only did he help the Featherington family, but he saved other lords from being scammed.

He apologized to Will, explained why he acted rudely AND made amends to repair the damage by bringing men to Will's club.

He returned with gifts for everyone, but he seemed particularly thoughtful to his sisters and mother. A perfume for Hyacinth, music for Francesca, and a book for Eloise 🥹. Violet was so moved by his gift and here we have a lovely headcanon on the watch:

Then with Pen...

He runs after Pen, despite other men wanting to know about his adventures.

He acknowledges his mistake and immediately tries to apologize to Pen in the Four Seasons Ball.

The next day, he comes back with a heartfelt apology.

Then, he offers her help, despite the risk of scandal and embarrassment for him. He knows Pen has no one else.

He goes to see Pen at night to make sure she's ok. And when she asks him for a kiss, he does it so sweetly.

He is brave enough to leave the men who just want to know about his sexual life.

HE WAS BRAVE ENOUGH TO ASK, as soon as he put himself together and understood his feelings. He didn't play jealousy games like others, he went and put his heart on the table. He didn't even know about Pen's feelings and he risked it!

Some extracts from Colin's journals show that his family is always in his thoughts.

You can see why Violet, as the good mother that she is, can tell how sensitive he is.

Colin travels during the summer and comes back during the season to be with his family. It angers me that people think he's selfish for this when Benedict also abandons the family to fuck.

And yet, both Colin and Ben are sensitive. BOTH OF THEM, Francesca too. I wouldn't call Hyacinth or Gregory sensitive right now, and before s3, I wouldn't include Eloise either.

Anyway, I needed to get this out because I am so fucking tired of Kanthonies and Benophies making tantrums about this line.

I'm sure when s4 comes, we are going to see a moment between Violet and Ben where she acknowledges how amazing he is and everything he has done for the family. But not now, because this is COLIN'S SEASON.

This look Colin has is a pure surprise. That guy is shook. Not embarassed, not amused, shocked.

Because he'd never seen Pen being awkward.

She was always herself around him, so easy going, comfortable, and natural.

"You know how to wave your fan and flutter your lashes." That implies she's done that before with him, with absolute ease and he noticed.

He thought this would be easy, that guy didn't even stop to think, he straight up went to those men, because he knew she could do this from the start. He just didn't know it was around him only. And now he's like wtf is happening, now is not the time to try something new, do you usual flirting!

One of my very favorite little bits of this season is how warmly Francesca greets Penelope by her name at the first ball, not as Miss Penelope, and the 1000 megawatt smile Pen gives to Francesca. Their whole interaction is great and I wish we had more already, but this was a golden moment at this ball and I just want to cherish it.

I think they are going to be such good friends. ❤️

People were pointing out that Anthony is laying in the exact same position, with one of his arms extended under her head as he turns over to drape his other hand over her in both these shots and all I can think about is how he's finally able to wake up with Kate, exactly like he imagined he would when he woke up alone in season 2. Now, he gets to wake up with her every single morning, for the rest of their lives.

For a man who was convinced that his would be a marriage devoid of love, there's something so profound about him being able to begin each day with his wife cradled in his arms. His marriage is, in fact, full of love, even from the very moment he opens his eyes.

The tone and the eyes were the same 😢 the same embarrassment and the pain of feeling pitied and the despair of unrequited love (not knowing that he's going through the same thing).

I'm happy for her confidence in putting herself out there but the sacrifice of letting go of your first love after finally experiencing a kiss from him just breaks my heart. She was truly doing her best to move on.

Colin definitely misses Penelope when he gets back. He wants to spend as much time with her as possible. She sees Colin and, of course, gives him an ego boost.

Penelope grounded him through his letters on his first tour, and without her writing him, Colin went crazy. He lost sight of who he was to a point that he created a new social personality as a rake like he thought was expected from him. Why did he think it was expected? The men who would talk to him also had rake personalities, and women would give him attention if he was "charming" and flirty. His brothers even congratulated him for having more "proportion."

However, Pen sees through that. He starts seeing how important not only their friendship is but how much she means to him.

Someone was saying on here that he used the courting lessons to have Penelope forgive him, to be friends again, and to spend more time with him, and I agree. He doesn't really teach her much, except to have confidence and be herself. He's still going unchaperoned with her, touching her, joking/flirting with her, and meeting up in the middle of the night.

Ooo!! Another thought... maybe this is another reason why in the Willow scene, he is so happy to quit the lessons. I think not only his world turned upside down with the kiss, and he now sees Penelope in a more romantic light. Also, he believes she has fully forgiven him for his words from last season, and they can resume just being together that is outside society rules. The word "friend" starts to sound so strange coming out of his mouth when he is starting to describe their relationship. "Like wow! I like her, AND I can kiss her too? I didn't know I could do that! And I like doing that."

Yet now, she is saying she wants to look for a relationship with someone else, and Colin just wants to make her happiness, even if it's not with him. Which starts his torture.

I'm seeing so many new things!!!

Then his mom says that it's ok to gather courage if she also has feelings. Colin is like, "Absolutely! I'm a good boy, and I will gather courage to ask."

And he freezes. There are so many doubts. He has no idea if she likes him. His fear takes over, and Lord Debling shows up to start a courtship dance. Of course, Colin wants Penelope’s happiness, so if she chose Debling, he would let her.

The second that he realized that Penelope would be engaged and to a man that would not love her, that is when Colin gathers the courage to ask. Pen would not be happy with Debling, and Colin only wants her happiness. Colin realized he wanted to make her happy, she would make him happy, and he would do everything in his power to make her happy. For the rest of their lives. He knew in that moment that he could waste no more time. Who needs courtship when they've known each other most of their lives? Now that he knows she wants to be more than friends, he wants to marry her.

I'm going to watch Season 3 Part 1 again. I'm in a loop, my fellow Bridgerton watchers!

I love how in season one and two Colin is just constantly dancing. If he’s at a ball he’s almost always on the dance floor with some young lady, but in season three we see him at every ball and he dances with NO ONE. The first time we see him dancing in part one is near the end of episode four where he interrupts Penelope’s dance with Debling.

He goes to every ball, he’s followed around by a herd of eligible young ladies itching to be on the dance floor, and all he does is stand on the sidelines and look for/watch Penelope. Even before the kiss where he fully realizes the extent of his feelings he’s still not dancing with anyone else.
