It is almost heartbreaking the way the toxic buddie stans are completely disregarding how 911 is trying to engage with discourse surrounding homophobia & LGBTQIA+ hate in workplaces in the show, and are crucifying one of the queer characters who is explicitly gay, just because their faves aren't a couple.
Tumblr media
Like, this 👆 scene was devastating as much as it was badass because of Chimney. Tommy didn't fight back, and instead shifted his stance a little. He looks visibly uncomfortable and hurt but doesn't respond, alluding to the fact that he doesn't want to cause a scene, and/or doesn't feel empowered enough to stand up for himself and his boyfriend.
The scene could've been such a catalyst for deeper discussions about queer representation in service jobs like firefighting. It could've even led to discourse about intersectionality and how Hen faced her own struggles in the LAFD because in addition to being queer, she is black and a woman.
But no.
Instead, y'all are raving on and on about how Tommy is ugly, Lou is d*sgusting, how the cast and Oliver hate him and his character & how Buck and Eddie should be together and anything other than buddie = queerbaiting.
If you only want Buck to be bisexual with Eddie, then you NEVER cared about bisexual/queer representation in the first place.

every anti tommy post I'm seeing is constantly phrasing their issues with "I wouldn't have let tommy do that" "I would've hated tommy for saying that" "I would've-" "I would've-" "i-"
or
"oh he deserved better" "he wouldn't have been okay with that" "I know buck wouldnt-"
or
"oh poor oliver, the story arc he wanted for buck was ruined"
and honestly the treatment of buck as a self-insert and the subsequent infantalising of him is fucking weird. he's a grown ass man and without a doubt if he had problems with tommy he would've voiced them. he's grown a lot thought out the seasons. he is in fact not you, he's a character written by a team of writers and acted by a grown man who can speak for himself just fine.
oliver is doing his job. and if lou could negotiate a make out session into a kiss then I have no doubts that oliver could have asked for the daddy kink lines to be taken out if they bothered him. seems like he didn't mind them because there they are in the fucking show.
why are some of y'all insistent on woobifying both buck and oliver??? it's so goddamn weird. learn to separate the character from the actor and also yourself.

y'all, dumbasses, buck brought up the damn daddy kink, not tommy
tommy matched buck's vulnerability, matched his tone, match even his cadence. and when buck brought it up to lighten the mood, he matched it too
and if you don't see that, then i guess you're not watching the same show, huh

Nothing proves the majority of toxic shippers are extremely young than their reactions to the daddy issues flirting/joke.
Not only is the queerphobia in the talk of vomiting and wishing characters are killed off cause they’re flirting with their adult partner pretty gross, but perhaps it’s a sign they shouldn’t be watching a show about adults, made for adults, with adult actors and writers if they’re uncomfortable with adult themes. This isn’t Heartbreak High.
Or maybe it shows that those who aren’t that young are going to pull out faux horror over anything the other ship does that they’d be loving if it were their ship.
Again, this is a show for adults about characters in their 30s, 40s and 50s. Can the childish, puritan takes with no understanding or experience with adult relationships, especially queer relationships, please be left in the trash where they belong?

what people think pro ship means: dangerous people who want to harm children in real life and/or think taboo subjects in real life are justified
what pro ship actually is about: the belief that people are allowed to enjoy fictional thing however they want, as long as it's fictional and no one in real life gets harmed or harassed in any way, and as long as they tag their trigger warnings properly.
most pro ship folks I've come across are just "hey, you like this fucked up thing that is fictional? okay, cool. you do you, man. I myself don't even like this thing that you like, but hey, it's not real. and I trust that you know the difference between fiction and reality, so you do you. if it ever gets too much for me, I will just block or mute you and move on with my life, but that doesn't mean I think you're a horrible person in real life because of the fictional thing you like, it just means I'd rather not see or engage with this thing that can make me uncomfortable. I still want you to have fun doing what you love, and I still think you're cool as fuck. love and respect, dude"
meanwhile most anti ship I've seen are like "omg you like this fictional thing where fictional children are harmed??! Red Flag Red Flag. put this gross piece of shit behind bars immediately!!!"
and I'm just ????? I don't normally engage in fandom wars, but I think, as long as you don't harass anyone in real life and as long as no one in real life is in danger or is harmed, how you enjoy fictional things is none of my business. and I'm not gonna make any "call out post" where I encourage my followers to harass you because you like fucked up fictional things that I personally don't like or believe is wrong either.
I mean, from personal experience, I was exposed against my will to thing I didn't want to see from anti's screenshot of fanart or fanfic where they encourage their followers to harass this person whose fanart or fanfic, that was screenshot and spread by them, was originally tagged properly with all the trigger warnings so that people who didn't want to see it wouldn't get exposed to it. until anti screenshot it and flaunted it around in the name of being morally superior while also, at the same time, advocated for the witch hunt against someone who just wanted to mind their own business. so... the irony. lol
fandoms used to be more peaceful before Fandom Police starts their witch hunting, but it's a good thing we can just block these people and keep on enjoying our blorbos however we want to enjoy them.
and I'll always encourage every artist to write whatever they want, draw whatever they want. don't let people who think they're "morally superior" tell you you can't make art this way or that way. my best advice would be to block and ignore and keep on creating what you want. they may be loud, but at the end of the day they're just noises and they're not worth your attention x

ykw i'm just gonna say it. "it must have been awful for tommy to be closeted under gerrard's captaincy" and "tommy had a privileged position due to his gender and race that he actively benefited from and failed to utilize to openly advocate for chimney and hen—particularly chimney—who didn't have the privilege he did" are two statements that can and should coexist

Oml okay so me personally I was laughing at the fact that buck keeps getting kinks confirmed in canon but ngl the whole scene did fall flat for me
Now about the daddy kink discourse (good lord there is a sentence I never thought I’d type):
1. My dude please don’t tell queer people what queer culture is, you really think the large demographic of tumblr users are straight? 😭😭
2. No one is actually bothered about buck or Tommy having a daddy kink or the sexual flirting , y’all missed the point what people are bothered about is the context that conversation came up
3. The writers had the chance to make this into a really sweet and vulnerable moment where buck and Tommy open up to eachother and Tommy had spotted buck’s worry and buck let’s him be a safe space, instead they had the conversation turn into a flirtation and daddy kink joke, honestly if you wanna be like oh that might be Tommys personality, then okay let’s play devils advocate and so you could’ve kept the daddy kink joke but have some line after about Tommy wanting to lighten the mood, but to have it be like a genuine flirtation it’s just not great in the context
If anything I’d think bucktommy shippers would’ve preferred the former with the vulnerable scene
4. Since y’all wanna talk about not knowing queer cultures I want y’all sat for some sociology info dumping, found families isn’t just a trope loved by queer people, it’s something actually reflective in queer culture for decades because for obvious reasons many queer people had been rejected by their bio families and formed a new pseudo-family, but then this kinda becomes a common practice for queer people (both with familial trauma and without) because of an inherent openness toward alternative family structures and forms
So if we’re talking about how queer culture should’ve influenced that scene then buck calling bobby the dad he never had SHOULDNT have been met with a dry “ your dad is still alive” it should’ve been immediately understood even without knowing bucks trauma

literally seeing people on this website saying they can feel however they want about fictional characters and then immediately afterwards saying they would kill a (fictional) gay man
the homophobia is coming from inside the house

Ok. I have had ENOUGH.
I have tried to stay out of the ship wars and fandom discourse but I can’t anymore. I cannot stay silent.
Not when I’m seeing this on my Twitter feed:
Tumblr media
It is HOMOPHOBIC and UNACCEPTABLE to write a handwritten list of all the ways you want a gay character to suffer, including a gruesome saw trap AND self deletion. And then post it.
If you have been on the sidelines trying to just enjoy the show, as I have tried, this is your sign to start calling out this behavior and fighting back.
We can’t let this stand. We have to put our money where our mouth is and stand up for queer representation and queer people, especially with pride just around the corner.

I don’t wanna feed into the “bucktommy is purely sexual”, “bucktommy shippers are fetishizers” discourse so this will be the only thing I’ll say about that.
I think it’s incredibly interesting how there’s soooo many posts about bucktommy here on tumblr (and no doubt in other platforms too), there’s sweet wholesome posts, there’s analytical posts about their relationship, there’s headcanons, there’s fanarts and yes, there’s smutty fics too for example.
Yet, the people who are pointing fingers, calling others fetishizers, are the ones solely focused on the sexual content. Bucktommy fans aren’t the ones making their relationship all about sex, the call is coming from inside the house.
Unhinged buddies are the ones choosing to ignore the part of the scene where both characters open up about their rough family histories and, instead, are making it all about a very quick sex joke that was used to lighten the mood. And because they can’t stop at that, they then proceed to say two grown ass queer characters flirting with each other is gross, disturbing, and a reason one of them should get killed off. That’s the real disgusting thing.
This just in, gay people have sex. I know, shocking. They also talk about it, they make jokes about it. It’s almost as if it’s a normal thing- oh wait, it is. In bucktommy’s case, it’s far from being the only facet of their relationship, but it’s still there and it’s not deviant, it’s not disgusting and if it makes you so uncomfortable to think about then maybe that’s something to reflect on.
Touching grass is not enough, y’all need to roll on it like a dog excited to go on a walk. And maybe retake some reading comprehension classes too. Dead serious, grow up.

Another opinion from a gay man.
Some fans acting like the daddy issues line killed their grandma is insane but also the other side acting like it threw the first brick at stonewall and gave us gay rights is just as dumb.
I think a lot of the problem comes from the fact that the buck tommy relationship wasn't given the screen time it deserved and what little we get, we scrutinized too much.
Daddy issues doesn't mean you have a daddy kink, but fandom won't admit that that's exactly what Buck is gonna be reduced to from now on. He never escapes the hypersexualization even in a new ship. Which is ironic since Tommy is the one who keeps mentioning how bad his dad was and how Gerard was just as bad and that he's jealous of Buck's relationship with Bobby. The one with the daddy issues is Tommy.

Shipping and speculation and fan fic doesn’t mean it will happen or that it should happen or even that you really want it to happen, and even if it did it wouldn’t matter because you’re not writing the story. They are. Canon does not belong to us.
Shipping and fan fic is a ‘maybe’ thing, a possibility or even just a dream. A way to explore the world and yourself. It’s our imagination and it can build on canon, change cannon or just throw it out the window and be whatever makes your heart happy.
Which is why multi shipping and crack ships and all kinds of fun is possible.
It’s why the same character can be gay or bi or trans or ace or into kink or not into it, it’s why we can whump them and save them and kill them and send them into space or onto the back of dragons. They can see ghosts or be pirates or mermaids because they are not real and we are.
It’s all there so we can choose what we like and we should let other people choose what they like too.
It’s not wrong it’s just different
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷

In defense of Portgas D. Ace, chronically shirtless and made of fire: he didn't immediately grasp the powers of the Mera Mera no Mi (One Piece Episode A, chapter 1, page 37) just to be disrespected by someone saying that he'd be so callous as to burn his partner. Considering he also routinely walks the (wooden) deck of ships without burning holes (even when excited, even when fighting), his precision and control are exact. Furthermore, his stamina is insane- can go for 3+ days without food doing hard labor (One Piece Episode A, chapter 1, page 19), and endure 5 days of nonstop combat (One Piece Episode A, chapter 2, page 37). He's a little feral freak. You take one look at him and know without a doubt that he rattles a headboard like a sailor on shore leave. He'd totally be down for whatever you want to bring to the bedroom (or table, or couch, or wall, or whatever, probably). He is in fact chronically shirtless. He falls asleep while eating. He's pathetic. He's reliable. He was a suicide risk until he was like 12. He's a great brother. He's sopping wet while simultaneously being made of fire. In conclusion, Ace is hot, I'd risk it all. 🔥✌️
This is a response to the first entry in the Defend Your Blurbo Series, which I will link. And yes, Ace is hot, but One Piece Fandom, there's a reason I have that super long post with all your tags
It just reminds me how many times I was warned to watch out for the JJK fandom because, supposedly, they're unhinged and super horny. They were going to do crazy crap and ruin my polls. Well, after running this blog for five months now, I think I can tell you JJK is nowhere close to the horniest fandom. The top spot goes to One Piece by far. If you don't believe me, read this post where I have collected so much of the crazy crap they have put in the comments and tags on my polls.
Now, I have made one of these posts for JJK. You can find it under #nicknames and funny tags. But it's nothing compared to the One Piece post

I think at the end of the day, the thing I just really don't get about the whole Izzy discourse is - fanon Izzy is so boring, guys, and for what? Just so we pretend this masc white guy's the main character instead of the gnc and brown leads?
Like, I'm not about to yuck anyone's yum! And if you like Izzy as he is in canon, creepy and wet and fucked up, more power to you. He's fucking fascinating and I wish I was able to enjoy him more than I am. Bizarre little man with absolutely zero self-awareness. I really like how in s1e6 he chose to just be there in Stede's room, stroking the curtains and shit. There's something deeply wrong with him.
So when you decide to take this guy who's defining character traits include "being wrong about everything," "having a massive complex about Ed," and "being gay and homophobic" and you try to insist that he's actually right about everything and soooo persecuted by anything other than his own actions, it's not just racist more often that not but also you've got a whole new guy who's very boring. A lot of the time you're just mapping Ed's canon traits onto him so he can be interesting. My biggest thing stopping me from enjoying so many otherwise absolutely fine fics that have Izzy in them is his main trait becomes just being really mean to everyone all the time and that's never being challenged by the narrative, and I just don't think stories about a guy who walks around calling everyone fucking twats all the time while they all go "that's our Izzy lol" are very fun to read.
I wish we lived in an alternate universe where fanon Izzy never became a thing and whenever Izzy shows up in meta or fics you know you're about to get a really fucked up dude. My favorite thing about Izzy probably is that they ended his funeral with Ed getting to go "he was a fucking nightmare." What else is there to say really

you know i thought that post that joked about killing tommy was in incredibly poor taste but a bunch of you calling it out are the same people who didn't have jackshit to say publicly about a post "joking" about killing a fellow queer fan of color until after y'all blew up your friendship with that individual. so forgive me if i don't care about you appointing yourselves the morality police of this fandom
