Will worries he isn’t a good person. He’s always been polite, always been clever, always nice. But he’s got secrets locked away. Dark slugs of supernatural trauma stored next to deviant crushes on best friends. But no one knows, so it’s okay. That is, until he meets Eddie, hates him almost immediately, and it gets harder to be nice person, harder to keep the bad things locked away. Even harder when he meets Eddie’s friend Gareth, tells him a secret, instantly regrets it. Ends up at college in the big city with Gareth by his side. Sometime friends, sometimes not. Eddie hovering between them. Will is always left wanting more. Until he isn’t.

Gareth looks at the remainder of his cigarette, like he can’t finish it, offers it to Will.

‘You smoke?’

Will's mind is elsewhere, imagining where Gareth could be. Where he should be. If only Eddie wasn't here. He speaks without thinking, sighs with relief when it comes out funny.

‘Nah. Already died once, not trying to speed up the process of doing it again.’

‘Jesus, Will.’ Gareth chokes back a laugh, smiles at Will. Makes him feel better than he ever expected for a day like this.
