Oh my god, the website of Andy Ngo (canadian fascist) 'The Post Millennial' got hacked. This message was on their site:

(I'm on mobile and there's no available transcript, I'll try to add later) Basically a huge trans flag pretending she's coming out as a trans woman, but the important thing is the bottom, which was links to the entirety of their subscriber base, mailing lists, and personal details of all of their writing and editing staff.

The details hacked included email and physical addresses, ip numbers, completely raw passwords in text files of all of their users, which appear to include government members.

In summer of 2014 I began to make documentation of the events that were happening around me in Oregon. I did that at Google+ social media web site.

I could not get help ... years of eye-witness of mass murders, of people being ground into pulp at the shopping centers, of entertainment venues where actors, musicians, clowns, and magicians gathered to watch as citizens were crushed by machines, and tossed with trebuchet, and forced to ride on a giant 20 foot tall razor blade shaped like a slide at playground, people cut in two, long ways. Some of them tried to jump off the slide each time I saw it, partly cut, forced to ride the slide again. That slide is portable, makes a traveling road show. I saw it set up at Triangle Park in Ashland Oregon once, the terror bastards had modified it for wheel chairs. Disabled people forced to ride the razor slide while in the wheel chairs. The put a Visqueen plastic barrier around the slide to conceal it from passers by on the main highway there out front of Triangle park.

So I started writing about what I was seeing on Google+ in 2014.

I could not reach any help, and only terror soldiers made contact with that Google+ account. I asked Google for help, sent them many notes, simply to ask that they contact US national security, and US Military because I was unable to reach any help, and FBI.tips.gov is hijacked by terrorists, does not work for getting any help, it only brings assassins when reports of terrorism is made there.

Google sent assassins to my house instead of contacting US national security to point out the account I had there.

I killed all of the assassins that Google sent to kill me.

Google ran out of assassins for awhile. So, they decided to delete the entire Google+ social media platform. Millions of accounts were deleted. That means there were other reports of terrorism contained at the Google+ social media platform besides the ones I was making.

I downloaded my content, and put all of it here on Tumblr. That started in April 2019 when Google+ ended, I began this Tumblr account, but I kept pressuring Google to call US national security right up to the very end of the existance of Google+ social media platform.

That platform was deleted entirely because of the things I had written at my account there, rather than help, Google needed to eliminate the evidence against them that I had documented, and they needed to do that without pointing out any particular reason as to the nature of the decision to eliminate the entire millions of accounts that were hosted at the Google+ social media platform.

All they needed to do was end support for the service. They did not need to delete the whole platform. Other companies have abandon websites, while maintaining their exhistance, but without support for the service in event someone needs assistance to use the service, they just put up a set of FAQ’s, and anyone who uses such abandon sites is on their own to figure out how to use it, and the company says they won’t be responsible for lost content, while the system is still available to use on your own.

They did not go that route, Google deleted many millions of Google+ accounts, hundreds of millions of pages people had made written statements on, many of them contained clues of terrorism, even if the authors don‘t know what they may have seen, if they wrote something that describes some kind of thing that they did not understand at the time, that is sometimes eye-witness of terrorism, and was written down to preserve it.

So that happened. I moved the content here to Tumblr at the time in 2019, arranged it the best I could in this format here on Tumblr, which is a different format, the information does not present the same way it did on Google+, but the information remains consistent as the original posting.

That Google+ account was was not the first time I lost information there.

This Tumblr account is the second one I have made, the other one was deleted by the local sheriff who told me that help was on the way, but the account needed to be deleted so that others would not get any ideas about doing terror based on what I had written in the previous account. I knew that what the sheriff said about all of that was bullshit, I tried to defend, but was overpowered that day, and the sheriff was able to delete the previous Tumblr account from my computer many years ago, many years before starting that new attempt to write things down as I saw them happen around me.

In 2014 I was too scared to say the words: “nitrous oxide” online, and used the words “anesthetic gas” in place of that. I was too scared to say: “Terrorists are armed with swords” and I did not mention any swords for a long time.

The use of those two statements around here has always been risky thing to say, so I refrained from risk, relied on other verbiage, words that should have brought interest of national security personnel a long time ago.

no one has ever asked me one single question about any of what is contained here on Tumblr with exception of “Three Bozos” I wrote about on the day the “Three Bozos” came to my home pretending to be FBI, US Army, and Secret Service representatives. Those guys did ask some questions. It turned out that the “Three Bozos” were really three music industry professionals who decided to come to kill me on their way home from the Winter NAMM music industry convention and trade show, 2019 I think it was, January maybe. It was cold and snowing when they came to my home that day.

Those guys did not make it home, were killed in defense when they attacked while pretending to be something that they were not.

If you read what is presented at this account from the beginning, you’ll see that I have gone from being too scared to say: “terrorists are armed with nitrous oxide” to not afraid of saying: “I killed the son of bitch in defense in my home when I cut the fucker’s head off with my trusty fingernail clipper”

That is a substantial change in expression.

A few days ago, I sent a note to the White House to ask that some help be sent to Oregon. The only outcome has been a heap of dead terror soldier assassins.

no help has come, no one has tried to contact me in any way, and there is a small airplane buzzing over my house right now low and slow, as the often do when I write terror reports on Tumblr. It’s 4:52 pm as the airplane passed by. They often drop loads of poison gasses when they fly over, to prime the area for a ground assault that follows the flyovers.

The victims are actually drawn into the places where they will be killed. The terrorists are “Christian Shepherds”, they guide the victims to their deaths. It’s time to start to see things as they are, not the way the story on the news tells you it is.

“How can you tell that reports from government about gun legislation is fake?”

You know it’s fake because it’s the same fucking story told over and over and over again. That right there is enough to view these kinds of stories as established terror marching orders that work good every time they are presented.

There is a ton of terror orders in Trudeau’s tweet.

In association with FEMA in Texas at the “Hell Freezes Over Tour”, the story serves as a way to say what kind of hardware Trudeau is expecting to be brought to him afterwords.

In a broader sense, it’s about people, not guns. It’s about a priority to remove the kind of people who carry guns. That could be permanent removal, or in association with Hell Freezes Over in Texas, is a call for a distraction to be rolled out by news media, where the news media creates a situation that makes an excuse for the public safety to be drawn to a controlled environment away from a planned attack zone. That can be done to protect Royal Canadian Police in Texas who are disguised as local police, so they can do marching orders remotely to the Canadian terror army at an attack zone not far away, but far enough that no one is interested in what the police are really doing as they pretend to do whatever the media distraction is.

Also, that kind of story at a weather event where desperate people may be competing for life saving supplies, makes for “Fractal View” of a situation within a situation, where some Canadian terror soldiers do a “gun violence” scenario, something poignant, where people are said to be fighting over the life saving supplies, and kill each other. They sound like internal combustion engines, and sometimes like jet motors, and sometimes like a “Whoosh” sort of wind sound. Wolke made a internal combustion sound last night.

That makes two county judges that have been killed in defense at my home, in addition to most of the “Former Trump Cabinet”, The Vice President of USA Mike Pence, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex Harry and Megan Windsor, and Prince Charles w/at least one Queen‘s Guard in the past few years, to name a few of the more important terror soldier leaders.

this Tweet from ABC news Verified Account on Twitter, and some others on Twitter today featuring people wearing blankets as they are walking, are communication from ABC and Google/Twitter to say they have not heard from Patrick Wolke, Josphine County Circuit Court Judge, and are requesting that he make contact to places he is supposed to make contact after trying to kill me at my house. There are at least two other Tweets featuring the blankets, they represent the Robe worn by a judge.

This is a good place to mention that those two terror soldiers that ambushed me at my driveway the other day and were in my house after the ambush happened are suspected of being Oregon State Police Officers Jeffrey Prouix and Tanya Henderson. Both are dead now.

At Whitehouse.gov when you make contact there, you must fill out some form questions such as name and address, email, gender, other contact information, and you get 2000 characters of space to say your thing to Whitehouse.gov.

There is a field in the form marked “Pronoun“ and some choices: “He/Him” and “She/Her” are two of the choices among many.

I do believe there are people interested in stopping the terrorism reported, that is good news. The bad news is such people are not likely to be mentally prepared to accept the factual details in order to pursue the terrorism in “from the top, and downward” way that is required to stop it.

So far, the way it looks is the terror army just moves from city to city, murdering and replacing with assistance from state police, and that is mostly where location and time of particular events are announced, on a local level. The Twitter advises of challenges, or special circumstance to those kinds of city wide takeovers.

The Top Down approach to stopping the terror take over cannot happen while Twitter remains active, only dead national security people will result until Twitter is taken offline permanently. The reason for that is the the people at the top, are the leadership of the national security at a official level, while those same people are the leadership of the terror army. The national security are commanded publicly by the same people who kill them in shadows. Twitter is such a shadow.

The terror army will always know exactly where the national security people are at before they arrive there. It’s a losing proposition when millions of terror soldiers have access to twitter, where the terror commands are coming from.

That will slow down the advance of all the terror activity, and save the lives of the ones doing the investigations, and eventually arrests, so the leadership of the terror army can be safely transported to Easter Island, and dropped off there to fend for themselves.

At Whitehouse.gov I filled out all of the necessary questions about who I am, where I live and how to reach me. We know they were able to reach me with the email once, and I included my phone number but no calls have come into my phone. The bill is paid, the phone is not broken, it’s the system it runs on the does not work. Only select people can make a phone call in Oregon, and when calls are made, there is someone who listens to all of the calls. The phone numbers a person calls has to be among approved numbers, and my phone only reaches assassins, there is no way for me to use the phone I pay the service fee for to reach anyone, and mostly the calls I get are ones that don’t leave a message, and I don‘t know who called or why. Calls tend to come from Brookings and Coos Bay, Reedsport, Eugene Oregon, and cities along the interstate 5.

I am still waiting for the phone to ring to talk to someone about the terrorism.

You can find dozens of them just associated to Karen Pence White House Video Productions too. It means something specific, as I recall, it means “Seventh Day Adventist Busy Bee’s” is a “Bee in your Bonnet” terror communication, where the Bee is planted in the SDA terror soldiers “Bonnet” as a set of ideas to work with, for brainstorming, is the way I remember what that aboriginal background music is there for, clearly, there is a close connection between BBC news production video services, and White House Video Production Services that can be determined just with that kind of music in the videos the two producers make.

“Corona Virus” already happened in Oregon before Twitter was publicly released. They used the same terror command pre-packaged attack orders then as are being used now. Notes from Meetup #7: Tech and the City - Part 2

I’ve had to split up this edition’s write up as the number of talk videos this month break Tumblr’s “5 embedded videos per post” limit. Please see part one for background info about the event, an update from the Things Network Sheffield meeting and talks from Ben Atha, Stephen Elliott, Jonny Douglas and Fabio Ciravegana.

Here are the remaining four talks, followed by some thoughts about the year and looking ahead to 2018.

Steve Jubb: The Urban Flows Observatory’s Sensor Challenge competition

Steve is Technical Manager of the Urban Flows Observatory at the University of Sheffield (see our February and July editions for more background on UFlO), and provided us with details  on the observatory’s first innovation competition. They will be running one of these in each of the three years of the project, and this first one is intended to get new kinds of data in to the observatory.

The winning entry will receive £4k worth of kit to develop “a prototype to capture data (e.g. a sensor, sensor network or another novel way to capture digital data) about how energy and resources flow through the city.”

They are looking for expressions of interest to be received before Xmas (so get entries in quick). Their website hasn’t yet been launched, at least not at time of writing, but you can find out more about the competition along with the form to declare your expression of interest at UFlO’s twitter account.

David Oliver: Public Wifi and the DCMS Local Full Fibre Networks Challenge Fund

David Oliver is a Solutions Architect at Sheffield City Council, and was finally able to announce that the Public WiFi contract has been signed off (hooray!) and IDAQ Networks will be the provider. He outlined the parameters of the roll out (pretty much as Mark Gannon did back in September, but we weren’t able to publish the video at the time). One important thing to note is that there will be a city app developed alongside the WiFi, which will a) be open source and b) is intended to provide a jumping off point for other applications and services - like an app-store for the city (if you will).

Much more on this to follow in the new year, I’m sure!

In addition to the WiFi project, David also provided an outline of the DCMS Full Fibre bid which is currently underway.

Sam Chapman: Funding opportunities and getting the community to bid

Sam Chapman is co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer at The Floow, the Sheffield-based telematics firm who are also one of Tech Nation’s Future 50 cohort, which tracks the most promising late-stage startups in the country. Sam wanted to direct our attention to a number of funding opportunities and encourage the community to collaborate on bids, as we are missing out on opportunities as a region and not securing as much investment as other comparable cities in the UK.

Sam particularly wanted to draw our attention to the ERDF funded “Sheffield City Region – Integrated Actions for Sustainable Urban Development” fund which has nearly £9m allocated to the region, with deadlines for calls on the 12 January and end of March next year? The Sheffield City Region did advertise for projects back at the beginning of November, but Is anyone bidding for this money, or aware of a bid? Because we’ll lose it if not.

The second opportunity Sam referred to is the upcoming GovTech Catalyst which is opening next year and will have a £20m fund to support innovations in government tech.

Finally, I presented the usual SmartSheffield News segment, to highlight some of the other things that have happened recently.

Firstly, on the IoT front, in addition to the Things Network Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam’s Things Connected partnership, Siemens and the University of Sheffield have opened a new innovation space in the Diamond building called the MindSphere Lounge, around Siemens’ industrial IoT platform; and Barnsley Digital Media Centre have launched the IoT Tribe North accelerator programme for internet of things startups.

The main thing I spoke about, though, was the recent Digital Conference, and the plans for Sheffield’s  Digital Coalition, which is going to be branded dotSHF. As Mark Gannon outlined back in September, this is essentially a coalition of digital leaders across the city who are involved in applying technology to developing Sheffield’s capabilities across seven domains: People, Living, Economy, Mobility, Governance, Resources and Infrastructure.

While the conference was really the first experiment in bringing this coalition together to engage with the challenges and opportunities in these seven areas (and the various sub-domains within them), 2018 will see much more of this activity, and will hopefully begin to accelerate Sheffield’s digital development using an open, flexible framework of cooperation and information sharing. As those who attended the conference will know, this is underpinned by a series of Trello boards, one for each of the domains, which members of the coalition are encouraged to use to record and track projects and useful information for the benefit of the whole community.

This was the 7th SmartSheffield meetup event Matt Proctor and I have run together, the 5th this calendar year. Our intention from the outset was to try to achieve four things:

Bring a community of people together who have an interest and a stake in Sheffield’s development as a smart city.

Provide a forum for local businesses, the public sector and academia to present their plans and projects, get feedback and encourage engagement.

Build the profile of those projects amongst the wider tech and community and further.

Encourage the community to develop more impactful project concepts and bid for funds to realise them.

I think we have certainly managed to achieve the first two of those things and touched on the others, but I think there is still a lot more to do to make the wider tech community aware of what is going on around these topics, let alone the general public.

And I think we have, as yet, barely scratched the surface of what we can achieve together when we put our minds to it and collaborate outside of the events.

That said, this year has seen a significant step up in the volume and quality of smart city activity in Sheffield, and in the attention it has received, and we are looking forward to continuing to push the agenda forward next year enormously!

2017 Eclipse Story & Postmortem Kickoff: 2400 Days until the April 8th, 2024 Eclipse

A lot of words on my eclipse experience behind the cut (sorry mobile users).

Over 30 years ago as a little boy, I recall seeing a documentary about some past eclipse, possibly the previous one in the US in 1979, but possibly even older. This documentary featured a number of scientists and photographers trying to capture images of the eclipse. One of the fascinating things was the sheer anticipation of everyone captured in the video as totality approached, and of course the awe of seeing totality. I can’t be certain that some of the excitement wasn’t staged for the purpose of the documentary (now that I’ve seen totality, it’s weird that everyone’s backs were so lit in the film- it’s totally dark out during the real thing). After seeing that documentary, I made up my mind that I was going to see an eclipse someday.

About five years ago, I started doing some eclipse planning, mostly research. Some of the things I researched: Weather Conditions, Path of Eclipse, and Lodging. Originally I was hoping to see the 2015 eclipse in the Faroe Islands, but I knew I likely couldn’t make it happen. I set my aim on the 2017 eclipse in the US.

Three years ago, looking over my budget and projections, I felt I could probably try to photograph the eclipse, but there were some complications due to my employer being in dire straits (they eventually folded). I sat on the decision for a year, waiting to see if conditions would change, as I was trying to also prioritize making a move from the east coast (Massachusetts) to the west coast (California). At this time I thought maybe I could just snap a few shots on film, not having to worry about solar filters as I would only shoot totality, and really just attending as a casual observer.

Two years ago, I landed a new job and also negotiated terms that would put me in California by the time the eclipse would roll around. Most significantly, being in California would mean driving to the best viewing spots would only be three days of driving away at most, versus three to six days from the east coast. After landing this job, I started working on finding out what gear I would need to actually shoot an eclipse.

A year and a half ago, after completing my move to California, I bought a DSLR again (the Nikon D500). Other cameras I considered were the Nikon D5, Nikon D4S, Nikon Df, and Nikon D810. From prior experience of having taken shots of the moon at 200mm on a crop sensor, I figured I would probably need the option of getting more reach, but I felt ISO performance would also be necessary. This turned out to be a rather prescient decision (see below note #3 on bracketing). Last, frame rate is rather important to be able to have the option to make use of lucky imaging. Only the D500 could meet all these criteria.

About a year ago, I drove out to Wyoming to scout the city of Riverton and the surrounding area for sites to view the eclipse. I made sure to also note the position of the sun at about 11:00am (during July) to get an idea of where I might be setup and where I’d be pointing during the eclipse. I visited a Raspberry farm in the area that had a location where I could maximize time spent in totality. The owner seemed nice enough and was already well informed about the eclipse- another person had shown up six years prior, scouting locations, and one other person had shown up a year prior to my visit, also looking for locations. He mentioned that he had also been contacted by travel agents seeking to find a location for a large group of scientists. He assured me that we could keep in touch and when I left Riverton later that day, I felt satisfied that I had secured a spot to view the eclipse.

Eleven months ago, I bought a 300mm f/2.8 lens and set of teleconverters (1.4x and 2x), and started learning how to shoot with that lens. My intent was to use this lens as my backup, just in case something happened to my main lens (which I hadn’t bought yet). I don’t use this lens very much anymore, but it was good to get this experience, and it also taught me a lot in what to expect in super-telephoto lenses. The first lesson learned from this period was that supports and straps for a large lens are a huge deal. I looked at a number of rigs and harnesses before settling on a strap made by Vulture Equipment Works. I highly recommend them- they’re the only strap maker that has an offering that can easily handle such large lenses; and incidentally make straps that can also resist being cut by knives (theft was something I considered, seeing as the gear I would be carrying would be worth about $18,000 new- I didn’t pay nearly that much though, whew).

Almost ten months ago, I went birding with @hiimles and some of his friends and really started getting used to handling large lenses and also learning how people shoot birds. I owe everything I’ve learned about birding to him and his friends and to @fatchance‘s astute observations and commentary on birding over the time I’ve known him on tumblr.

Eight months ago, I was still agonizing over whether to go with 400mm f/2.8 versus a 600mm f/4 for the eclipse. While the 600mm is 1/3rd closer in reach, the one stop advantage of the 400mm is hard to ignore for all shooting situations, not just the eclipse. I found a 600mm at a very good price from a trustworthy seller on ebay and went for it. When the lens arrived it was much bigger than expected in person. I decided to buy a dedicated strap just for it and started hunting for a gimbal and tripod for it.

Six months ago, I found a gimbal and tripod at reasonable prices for my supertelephoto lens. I started making a point of going out every other week or so to get used to handling and transporting the lens.

Three months ago, I bought solar filter film and started looking for ways to put it to use with my lenses.

Two months ago I made a filter from the solar filter sheet and a HVAC reducer pipe and I posted my first sun image here on tumblr.

A little more than a month ago I started looking for solar viewers for friends. It was nearly too late. Fortunately I found a local dealer (Agena Astroproducts) who was able to hook me up.

Less than four weeks ago, I started buying all the other non-photography stuff I would need for the eclipse. Cloth to use as dark-cloths and also as dust covers for my gear, folding chairs, and some snacks.

Three weeks and four days ago, I embarked on my trip.

Three weeks and a day ago, I saw the eclipse with my own eyes and also took pictures. I couldn’t believe I had done it all- I nearly cried.

First, some things that could have gone better in my experience at the 2017 eclipse:

Bring a better timer - I used my iPhone to alert me to take a round of pictures about every 5 minutes, slowly decreasing that interval down to 3 minutes or so. However, because I had to unlock my phone to reset the timer and change the interval, my intervals were not quite 5 minutes on the dot and this also cost me some time near the start of totality.

Study the totality exposure table more - I missed out on shots of bailey’s beads and the diamond ring because I didn’t realize the solar filter had to be off during the very last seconds of totality, and because I was afraid of getting zapped in the eye.

Bracket wider - I did brackets at ISO 200 between 1/1000 - 1/8000s, at f/4.5; this was on the short end and while I did get a little bit of the corona, I could have captured so much more. I had enough time to try and go as deep as 1/60s, which would give me 4.5 more stops of reach, potentially enough to get 50% more corona. In addition, I could have also bracketed the other way, going to f/16 and 1/8000s and working my way back to isolate the chromosphere and solar flares at the edge of totality.

Don’t turn the lens during totality! - If I had bracketed wide enough, turning the lens would have increased the difficulty of post-process stacking by an order of magnitude. I did turn it back after realizing this was likely going to be problematic, and yet I didn’t do any HDR, but next time I will be sure to tighten my gear so I don’t inadvertently do this. I’ve noted that a number of people rotate their images so the widest flares are extended more horizontally, but I’m unsure this is wise because the view sun will also rotate a little bit during incidence. I think it is best to have a fixed point of reference at the start, and also to shoot an image that reflects what people on the ground see.

Use the center column for my tripod - Close to totality, I was no longer able to tilt my lens up far enough to keep tracking the sun due to its high position in the sky. A year prior during my scouting trip I estimated the sun would be up at about 60 degrees of elevation (which turned out to be correct for post-eclipse), but didn’t account that my setup wouldn’t let me look up higher than about +55 degrees due to interference with my tripod legs. With use of the center column, I could go higher and also raise the center of gravity on my gimbal to match. To remedy this at the time, I reoriented the tripod and lowered one rear leg to get additional inclination, with the additional risk that my tripod might fall over.

Here are some things that went great, whether purposefully or inadvertently:

Have a backup location handy - The original site where I was going to see the eclipse was a raspberry farm about 20 miles east-northeast of where I ended up; the guy stopped answering his phone sometime between last contact and the day of the eclipse. Thankfully I managed to find another site with reasonable viewing conditions the night before as the region had setup a website to promote a number of local ranchers who had setup campgrounds. It only took me 30 minutes to secure another location.

Have another person look out for changes in the sun - Thanks again to @fromtheplains for keeping an eye on everything while I was busy attending to gear and setting up.

Weather - It was cloudy at the start of the eclipse, but the location was favorable for clouds burning off by the time totality would start, which they did. This was the thing I researched the most. Wyoming and Idaho were the only two candidate states that met my weather criteria (and also personal experience driving through the area vs the midwest and southern states).

Lodging - I called one hotel that said to call a year in advance exactly 372 days ahead (365 days + 1 week) and continued calling every day until bookings opened so I could secure a room. On a lark, looking for backup locations to make additional reservations, I did another sweep 358 days prior (365 days - 1 week) and couldn’t find anyone willing to accept reservations as everyone was booked.

Gear - I managed to get nearly 300 frames in during totality, for a sustained frame rate of 2.25 fps over 2:05 mm:ss, including time spent adjusting exposure settings, removing my Solar Filter, gawking at the eclipse for about 15 seconds, and time at the end replacing my Solar Filter. I estimate my max fps peaked at Camera limits (~10fps), and that my actual sustained rate was close to 5fps. During my shooting I noticed that I hit the buffer limit at least 7 times. During these slowdowns I tried to hold back a little on shooting by using these moments to adjust my bracketing while the Camera spooled off portions of the buffer. There are very few cameras and configurations that can perform in such conditions- I’m glad I went with the gear that I did. Overall, 16gb of RAWs (778 frames) were captured during the three and a half hour session observing the Eclipse.

Looking forward to 2024, here are my notes on observations and priorities for the next Eclipse:

Texas - Texas is basically the only worthwhile place to view the eclipse if you intend to take pictures. All other states along the path from Texas through Michigan through Maine have worse weather patterns during April, and even Texas is less than ideal (80% sunny days in April vs 91% for Riverton, WY in August).

Terrain - Looking at a topo map for Texas, there is a ridge that zig-zags with the path of the eclipse in the southern portions of the state. While good totality is possible over much of the state, the best spots are going to be high-elevation (over the ridge) no further east than Kerrville, TX, away from any major bodies of water. This should provide the best viewing conditions possible, hopefully minimizing heat and atmospheric distortion. Lower lying areas east of Kerrville and the ridge / eclipse lines will have at least 1600 ft of additional atmosphere to manage. In addition, the eclipse will be occurring in the west-southwest skies, ending only a half hour from sunset. I expect there to be fewer potential obstructions at higher elevations, and the elevation climb is much lower west of Kerrville than east (1200ft over a horizon of 150-200mi vs 1600ft over 80mi in the eclipse path).

Lodging - Lodging is going to be extremely tough to secure for this area of the state as any other eclipse chaser is going to notice the same details I have, and there are not enough rooms for every photographer and party out of state. As an out-of-state visitor, it is important to book a room and not rely on a campground as campground arrangements might disappear or overbook before the eclipse (see note above about the Raspberry farm guy).

No Contingency - Because the meridian for the eclipse starts at Mexican border on the south end and passes close to San Antonio, Austin, Dallas-Ft.Worth, and Texarkana on the north end of Texas (basically all major population centers in TX), there is little hope of traveling to another location if the weather forecast is bad the day of the eclipse. Might as well setup and hope for the best once in the area.

Rain - Given the season (Spring) and historic precip/cloud averages (2.5″+ / 20%) for that area of Texas, it is possible there may be rain during the day of the eclipse. You can be assured I will be carrying tarps for this event.

There’s 2400 days to go until the next eclipse. If you missed out on totality in 2017, now is as good a time as any to start thinking about whether you want to try and catch it in 2024 and where you will attend. I hope that you get to see it and that your planning is as successful as can be.

LET’S TALK MONEY

Okay. So one of our mutual... um... mutuals was talking with my wife, @unforth-ninawaters (Claire) the other day about money. And then Claire asked me if the mutual could ask me some questions since I’m the one who handles that aspect of our financial lives (HOARD ALL THE MONEY SAVE ALL THE DOLLA DOLLA BILLS FOR THE FUTURE!) and I was like I think it’ll be easier to make a post? Just kind of going over how I do our savings buckets? And then I was like I can’t do that without talking about other important ways to save money, so it’s a whole thing (see also: Obsessive Compulsive Personality. My compulsiveness is to your benefit!). So. Behind the cut because this shit gets long.

First, it’s important to note that I am NOT a certified financial planner or advisor. I am just a 31-year-old woman who in recent years got a bit obsessive about hoarding money for the future, did a bunch of research on the best ways (for me) to do that, and am now sharing that info with the world. So there will be a few sections here. Also, since this is as it relates TO ME, I’m not going to talk about debt very much, because we are lucky enough to not have student loans and, apart from our mortgage and car payments, any other debt we have is held by my mother-in-law (again: we are lucky to have that as an option. She paid off the credit card from when we had to do a bunch of home repairs/improvements, and we pay her directly, so there’s no interest).

SOCIAL SECURITY

Oh hey I am actually certified to talk about this part! So. Most people are familiar with Social Security retirement, full retirement age, etc. At this point, there is actually not a reason to be alarmed about the longevity of the Social Security Retirement program. Short-term, there ARE likely to be some bumps and lumps, but I really do believe that at some point before 2037 or whatever year they’re now predicting that Social Security will be kaput, the cap on taxed income will be raised and it’ll become solvent again.

That said. PAY INTO SOCIAL SECURITY. If you do side-jobs under the table, whatever, you do you. But your main job? Should be paying in to Social Security. If you do your own taxes because you’re self-employed or a contractor, this is SEPARATE from income tax. It’s part of the FICA taxes. Not only is Social Security for retirement, but also if you become permanently disabled (or disabled for 12 months or more) from any type of work, you may be able to collect early. So. While Social Security is not intended to replace all of your income and should not be used entirely as retirement savings, it is one source that really should not be forgotten or missed. Especially in the case of disability.

I GOT THIS PAYCHECK, WHAT DO I DO WITH IT?

How I have mine set up is that $20 of my paycheck goes into an FSA for medical expenses (probably should have done that higher this year, but hindsight etc etc). Then, 7% goes into my company 401k, of which 4% is matched. So I get an additional 4% of my salary JUST for putting money into my 401k. Always meet the match if you can. Because seriously. Free money. Of the remainder, automatically by direct deposit 80% of my paycheck goes into the joint account for necessary family expenses (mortgage, food, doctors, etc.) and then 20% goes into my account for whatever crap I need (gas for my car, food if I want to go out to lunch, etc.). Of that 20% that goes into my account, I have an additional $50 per paycheck that goes into long-term investment savings automatically (we’ll cover long-term investment savings later) (also: this is usually higher but I’m working part-time right now, so.). I also try to keep my short-term savings account with a few hundred dollars in it so that if I have a minor emergency I can access it easily, but that is something that I deposit into on an as-available basis. Essentially, on payday, if there is still $50 left in my account, I transfer it into savings.

I find that, for me, setting as much of this to happen automatically as possible makes it WAY EASIER. I mean. It was maybe 3-4 hours of work to set everything up with the multiple accounts for direct deposit and the deposits into my investment accounts? And SO WORTH IT.

WHAT IS THIS INVESTMENT ACCOUNT STUFF YOU KEEP TALKING ABOUT?

Okay, so. In addition to 401k plans, you can also have an IRA. This is a separate type of retirement account. Several years ago, after I was fired from one job, I needed to figure out what to do with my 401k and so I set up a private IRA to dump the money into. I, personally, chose Betterment for this, but there are several other providers (I think Learnvest has something? And possibly Mint?) Plus, all of the “direct deposit” I’m going to be talking about is through Betterment’s own system (I have it linked with my bank account), so I don’t need to do paperwork with HR. I can just go on their website and easily change anything. If I have a week where I know I’ve worked very few hours? I can go on and tell it to skip a week of direct deposit. It take me about 2 minues. Here’s part of the screen when I log in (I grayed out my balances because I feel weird putting that on my Tumblr):

One of the things I really like about Betterment is that I can have as many sub-accounts as I want, and can prioritize them differently. So in addition to my retirement account, I also have our big emergency savings account in there. Because I still hopefully have many years until I retire, my retirement IRA is set to a pretty high risk portfolio with more stocks than bonds. But because I want to make sure that nothing happens to our emergency savings, it’s pretty much all bonds. That means it won’t grow as fast, but it’s also MUCH less risky and should have fewer downturns, if any. Right now the traditional IRA says it’s off track because it wants me to have a higher amount that I’m depositing. I told it how much money I want to retire with and when I want to retire, and their calculations say I’m not going to make it with what I’m depositing now. It also makes suggestions like how much I should deposit either monthly or as a one-time deposit in order to bring that up. Right now, I’m not worried about it because I know that I’ll be able to increase the direct deposit later. But because of compound interest, the earlier the better!

I also have accounts for my own rainy day fund (either for a bike or a tattoo, at this point), Claire’s rainy day fund (saving up for a new computer), a college fund for the potato (I also have a separate 529 plan for him that birthday money goes into, but this way there is also a fund that is not necessarily tied to needing to be used directly for tuition but maybe other things when he’s older). And, one of my favorite things, the furnace fund.

Within the next 5 years or so, our furnace is going to need to be replaced. So I decided hey, why not start saving now? And I ballparked the figures. I told their system that in 5 years, I wanted to have $5,000. It suggested how much I should deposit each month in order to have that, and so I set up the direct deposit. It gives estimates with average and poor market performance, and graphs, and all kinds of things that are nice to look at when you’re a bit obsessive and like looking at a ton of data. Here! Have a chart!

The downside of using investment accounts is that they are NOT immediately liquid. If I want to make a withdrawal from one of these accounts, it takes about 4 business days, because the stocks/bonds/etc need to be sold. But for anything that is going to be long-term? I toss it in there.

The upside of this is that rather than have to enter all of the investment stuff into our taxes, when Claire does them online, she gives our tax software my login info and it plugs everything in. Like magic.

YOU MENTIONED SOME OTHER STUFF AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS OR IF IT APPLIES TO ME.

401k – this is a retirement plan through an employer. It might also be a 403b if you work at a non-profit. Many employers will match an employee’s contribution up to a certain percent. So, for instance, my company has a 4% match. That means that if I deposit 4% of my salary into the 401k program, they will ALSO put 4% of my salary in, so I end up getting money for free. It’s pretty sweet. Highly recommend. 401ks do have limitations on how the money can be used (generally that you must be a certain age or prove a certain hardship need), and you’ll be taxed out the wazoo if you withdraw early, but they’re a great way to gain equity.

EQUITY – this is basically just how much money/stuff/assets you have. So for us, that’s our savings and retirement accounts, plus the amount that’s already paid off of the house (if your house is worth $100,000 and you owe $75,000 on the mortgage, you have $25,000 worth of equity in the house).

LIQUIDITY – this refers to how easily accessible the money is. Cash in my pocket is the most liquid of all assets. Our house? Not so much. If we wanted to access the money from selling our house, we would need to first sell the house, which would take some time.

529 PLAN – this is a specific tax-free college savings plan. They are offered on a state-by-state basis. As long as the money in this account is used for college/education, it can be withdrawn tax-free. Plus, since it’s also an investment account, even if I don’t touch it at all or put more money in it, it will still grow at least somewhat as the potato gets older.

Now....for another eye-opening moment here: Let's take a look at the ransom letter (as taken from the book by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker, authors of Mindhunter and THE ANATOMY OF MOTIVE), pp.271-273.

Mr. Ramsey,

Listen carefully! We are a group of individuals that represent a small foreign faction. We [cross-out] respect your bussiness but not the country that it serves. At this time we have your daughter in our posession. She is safe and un harmed and if you want her to see 1997, you must follow our instructions to the letter. <-----Last line, note that they make clear if you want her to LIVE to see 1997, you must follow the instructions; however, there is no promise of an exchange or 'pick-up' of the daughter. She can live, but not be delivered back home; or what else? Because this is a very vague statement/promise. There is no promise of her safety, even if she does continue to live.

(Now this first paragraph misleads. In one hunch, the author(s) want us to believe that they are illiterate. Set-up #1. Who is or Who are the individual(s) being set-up for the murder of JonBenet Ramsey? Let's continue as I believe there are various authors to this letter. Look at grammar, context, VOICE, semantics, use of commas, capitalizations, and wording/vocabulary). Also, don't forget tone - At times, there appears to be contriteness, but more of a menacing underlying tone.

You wouldn't put such valuable things in a brown paper bag, which at best is flimsy and can be blown away - it is lightweight and not secure). So, here's a bit of a conspiracy theory for you all: JonBenet Ramsey is NOT dead. I've done some research for approximately less than 1 year, and it's been a hard one to solve. I've went from desperate to resourceful; I've shopped some theories, but then I stopped short, because another's bias will lead me down the same trail. To a dead end. Instead, I believe I got creative. And at first, I was all over the place. For one door opens endless possibilities. But then I tried to taper some of these theories into legit (legitimate) trails.

Hunch #1: She is still alive. Although the legitimacy of this seems an empty trail, I have a strong gut on this BECAUSE of the following (now I have discovered things that area all seemingly circumstantial and some are far-fetched as well) BUT I will post little by little and you be judge to call-out or reconfirm my best and worst work. Feel free to prove me wrong.

So why is this information misleading? All of THEM only focus on a few key things: Dates she won pageants; Some titles she won; her family; and the 24-hours prior to her abduction and everything thereafter (all the events AFTER her abduction). There is no mention of what kind of child she was - her personality; her friends; her hobbies (other than pageantry); did she frequent Church (with the family); who, outside of her family, was she exposed to or friendly with? Because the child's personality is KEY here. And I'll use a GREAT EXAMPLE: BRITNEY JEAN SPEARS. She is known to be painfully shy when she is off-stage and around others. But she would come alive on the stage.

Now in a digression, I want to touch upon an example which may explain my theory:

From what I remember (My personal recollection of Amanda Bynes from televised interviews), Amanda Bynes was always very calm and mannerly (kind) in interviews. She was graceful. And reserved. As was Britney. Now, when the lights came up or the camera rolled, these two child stars portrayed a much different and more confident air and act for the audience or stage (what-have-you). As they were reserved (why? this for me is confusing because what causes a person to be reserved? Is it introversion? I don't believe so, but again, I can be wrong. But a reserved personality is also a block and a block creates a position that can be misread)---> Let's do this again: As they were reserved personalities, private or SHY people (which shy can be misleading for private when it simply is a barrier or obstacle to overcome), SOMEONE, whether from close-by OR afar could've read the situation and created doubt or an introduced an unkind influence into the young ladies' lives and then corrupted the foundations and protection they had and EXPLOITED them. And framed them - but for what?

In another scenario, what if, there was no outside influence, but there was an attack that led to everything being covered up? Again, you will all call this far-reaching, but those with motive and (sorry Research Methods Professor from Binghamton, I forgot the other attributing _________ word) - those with motive and _____ don't necessarily need the means or even abilities to achieve their desires and desired outcomes. *Note: They are different - desires and desired outcomes.* - *Sometimes they may be the same, but let's not exclude anything.*

Harvest acquires Verano for US$850 million as U.S. cannabis consolidation heats up

Harvest Health and Recreation Inc. an American cannabis company listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange is acquiring Verano Holdings LLC — a privately-held Chicago-based pot company with a connection to Andy DeFrancesco, the private equity investor and dealmaker formerly associated with Aphria Inc.

The all-stock deal is one of the largest to take place south of the border to date, with Harvest purchasing Verano for US$850 million based on a share price of $8.79. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2019.

News of the deal sent Harvest’s stock up as much as 13 per cent on Monday, to close at $9.50. The shares had closed Friday at $8.59. The Arizona-based company debuted on the CSE last November.

“Verano is a company we have been watching for a number of months. They are hardworking, unassuming people who grow great cannabis and run their business efficiently,” Harvest CEO Steve White told the Financial Post.

White said he recently visited Verano’s operations in Illinois and was impressed by the quality of their product and the price that consumers were willing to pay for it.

“We’re motivated to expand aggressively right now because we are seeing massive discounts for cannabis assets like Verano because the substance is federally illegal. At some point that is going to change, and these businesses are going to be worth a lot more,” explained White.

Harvest’s main assets include licenses for 147 retail and cultivation sites — it is unclear however, how many of those licenses belong to sites that are fully operational. When asked, a company spokesperson declined to provide details.

According to a joint press release put out by Harvest and Verano Monday morning, the deal will create a cannabis entity that will hold licenses for 200 facilities across 16 U.S. states where either recreational or medical marijuana is legal, including 123 retail dispensaries. By the end of 2019, the company expects to have over 70 dispensaries, 13 cultivation facilities and 13 manufacturing facilities fully operational, the press release stated.

Verano’s website states that the company operates in 10 U.S. states, and owns three cultivation and production facilities, in addition to five retail stores (branded Zen Leaf).

Last October, a Florida-based company called SOL Global Investment (then known as Scythian BioSciences), where DeFrancesco is chairman and chief investment officer invested $88 million in Verano. SOL also sold an entity called 3 Boys Farms to Verano in exchange for a further stake it said was valued at $100 million.

The transaction resulted in Verano obtaining a license to grow marijuana in Florida, and SOL Global becoming one of the largest shareholders in Verano.

DeFrancesco’s name has come up in media reports repeatedly due to his role in Aphria’s acquisition of a number of Latin American cannabis assets that a short seller report deemed to be overvalued. The company has defended the transactions.

DeFrancesco declined to comment on Harvest’s acquisition of Verano.

But SOL Global CEO Brady Cobb told the Financial Post that his executive team had identified Verano as a potential investment after touring its cultivation facility and seeing how “exceptional” the operation was.

“I had actually never heard of Verano, had no idea who they were, so I had quite a low expectation. But what I found there was a very sophisticated grow-op with extraordinary attention to detail,” said Cobb. Cobb called Verano’s facility “Aphria-esque,” referring to the Leamington-based large scale grower of cannabis. “To me, Aphria is the best large-scale operator in Canada, and Verano had that feel to it except that it was an indoor facility, not a greenhouse.”

Both White and Cobb declined to comment on exactly how much cannabis Verano has been able to sell on an annual basis so far.

Multi-state cannabis operators like Harvest, Acreage Holdings Inc. and Curaleaf Inc. have become staples of the American cannabis industry due to variations in state regulations toward cannabis, and because of fact that the plant is still illegal on a federal level. These companies are able to circumvent the legal restriction of moving the plant across state-lines by buying up licenses in multiple states and thus leveraging those various domestic consumer markets.

“Although we believe this deal looks to significantly increase Harvest’s vertically integrated platform throughout the U.S., details on Verano still remain thin and we do not have an estimated transaction multiple at this time,” wrote Canaccord Genuity analyst Matt Bottomley in a note Monday morning.

Canaccord co-led a private placement offering of Harvest securities last November, around the same time the company went public through a reverse takeover.

Investment firm Eight Capital is advising Harvest on the Verano deal, and Infor Financial Inc. will act as financial adviser to the special committee of Harvest’s board.
