I’m a couple days late thanks to work being a butt and not letting me finish this on time. But here’s a little something for you.
Happy (belated) birthday.
I love you!
The knock on his door at a quarter after two in the morning should have surprised Yuu. It really probably should have. But it didn’t. Even though it had been nearly a year since Ryuu had been home. Even though it had been a couple months since they had talked. Even though he knew Ryuu had only been back a few hours.
Light from the street lights painted the world in stripes of pale yellow and dusty grays as they darted through the night. Ryuu’s hand was warm in his own, scratchy callouses and rough edged nails as familiar as the ones on Yuu’s own hands.
Yuu stumbled to a stop and collapsed onto a nearby bench when the sight of Ryuu (brilliant warm happy spectacular amazing fucking ethereal Ryuu) hit him right in the chest.
Ryuu was brilliant. Smiles brighter than sun reflecting on the water, laugh warmer and more soothing than an electric blanket on high. He was a million good days and comforting sounds and favorite smells all rolled into one perfectly imperfect being. But even better, even more important that all those other things? The best thing that Ryuu was?
Ryuu was Yuu’s. His best friend. His confidant. His shelter on crappy days, his anchor in storms, his light in the darkest of moments.
Ryuu stumbled to a stop, fingers still tangled with Yuu’s and looked back over his shoulder. Then he smiled and slowly came back to Yuu, stepping closer until Yuu had to tilt his head back and lean against the bench to look up at his face.
“Hi,” Ryuu said.
Yuu grinned. “Hi yourself.”
“Missed you.”
“Missed you too.”
Ryuu was every ounce of love Yuu had in his body shoved into a jar, shaken with starlight and wispy clouds high in the sky, and exploded into the shape of a person. He would have followed Ryuu to the end of the world and back again. But Ryuu had simply asked him to wait. Had trusted that Yuu would. Yuu. Someone not exactly known for patience and serenity had been asked to wait patiently and he had done it, knowing that it would be worth it when Ryuu came swooping back into his life.
Ryuu bent down and dropped a soft kiss on Yuu’s lips, far too soft and sweet for the amount of time they’d been apart as far as Yuu was concerned but he left it alone and let the warmth of Ryuu’s smile sink into his bones instead of the passionate flames that were coiled deep inside him.
“Well,” Ryuu said as he popped back up and bounced in place, eager to drag Yuu to whatever destination he had planned, “don’t just sit there! We have to go! Now!”
Yuu acted like he was going to flop onto the bench just to have Ryuu threaten to carry him the rest of the way.
“You’ve swept me off my feet, good sir,” Yuu said with a grin. “Take responsibility.”
Ryuu yanked him to his feet and picked him up into a princess carry in one smooth move and Yuu felt himself falling in love all over again at Ryuu’s laughter.
“Thank you for waiting,” Ryuu whispered against Yuu’s temple.
“You’re worth it.” Yuu whispered back. “Every bit of it.”
