V1 had been laying down in a sort of idle state in Gabriel’s arms for a while now. Was it similar to sleep? Were they dreaming? The angel pondered these questions to himself until the machine thrashed in his comforting grip, as if panicking or perhaps experiencing a nightmare of some kind. A fearful whining sound escaped their vocal processor and they were suddenly shocked awake, the light in their lens turning back on as they buried their face in Gabriel’s bare chest.
He tensed up at the feeling of cold metal, his wings suddenly unfurling behind him, but he quickly realized that V1 must be seeking out comfort of some kind. It was still strange, knowing that the two had both let down their guard enough to do stuff like… this. Gabriel relaxed and gently brushed his palm against V1’s back. They flinched—raising their eight wings—and shifted their position somewhat before calming down and folding each wing just loosely enough to allow Gabriel to continue trying to comfort them in the way that he was.
It felt good; the organic warmth against their artificial body.
It’d been a while since they trusted someone around their resting self. They were afraid to sleep; they often remembered unwanted things when they did so, and thus constantly tried to stay awake for as long as possible, even though it was just as detrimental to their robotic brain as it would be for a fleshy one.
“Are you alright, machine?” Gabriel asked, the sound of his voice soothing to V1.
V1 lifted their gaze and looked up at him, before shaking their head ‘no’. Their hands kneaded the flesh of his forearms, squeezing it gently in their grip as they glanced away.
“Whatever happened, it’s… I’m sure it’s just a dream,” the archangel tried his best to understand despite V1’s inability to speak. Perhaps they had a more complicated past than he thought. But whatever it was, Gabriel added, “You’re safe now,” in a quiet tone, his thumb rubbing light circles into the back of the machine’s head as they tilted their chin slightly upwards in response.
Gabriel thought he might as well ask something. “Do you need anything?”
In reply, V1 made grabbing motions at a half-healed wound on Gabriel’s shoulder. The angel chuckled and helped lift the machine up to the scratch, letting them pry it back open with their fingertips.
“Alright. You enjoy that.” Unconsciously as he watched V1, Gabriel caressed and massaged their body, helping them to relax and to calm down.
They began to purr as they siphoned blood, nuzzling their head against Gabriel’s neck.
“I won’t let anyone hurt you, machine, so long as I’m alive to do something about it.”
