The problem with Lloyd’s oni form:
One of my main issues with Crystalized besides the 99 other glaring ones is the fact that Lloyd NEVER accepted his oni side. It is a part of him and he continued to deny it up until the very end, and saved the day with only the part of him he DID want to acknowledge.
There could’ve been this big narrative of accepting all parts of who you are, allowing yourself to feel anger, redirecting anger against someone who hurt someone you love into the desire to protect that person, reclaiming something dark and using it for good, idk, just SOMETHING, and there wasn’t??
It gives the same vibes as Zane realizing that there is a purpose to grief, but never actually feeling any grief upon turning his emotions back on, so he never actually had to come to terms with his grief, making the lesson feel super empty. Except at least in that example, Zane actually learned a lesson even if it wasn’t utilized. Lloyd didn’t learn anything??
Lloyd essentially learned “if I deny a part of myself I don’t like and only focus on the part I DO like, things will work out!! Because the part I like is actually the right part to put all my faith in! I can continue to repress the other side forever!” Which sucks.
Anyway I think if he had defeated the Overlord with a combination of the dragon AND his oni form, it would have been a good lesson on how you are strongest when you embrace ALL parts of yourself in a healthy balance, but whatever
