Max

Maxine ‘Max' Gibson’s parents split up when she was very young. She and her sister lived with their mother who had to work long hours to make ends meet. As such, Max was forced to become very self reliant. She was a remarkably gifted individual, possessing a particular acumen for pattern recognition and computer programing. She attended Hamilton High School where she was the top student in her class.

One of Max’s classmates was Carter Wilson who secretly ran a gang of Jokerz under the alias of Terminal. Carter plotted to get rid of Max to ensure that he be named class valedictorian instead of her. After some run-ins with Terminal’s gang of Jokerz, Max started an investigation into the identity of who it was that was targeting her. Her initial suspect was classmate Terry McGinnis and she set a plan in motion to determine if her suspicions had merit. This led to her being attacked by Terminal and saved by Batman. Once Terminal was unmasked as Carter, Max came to the conclusion that Terry must actually be Batman.

She shared this with Terry, yet promised to keep his secret to herself; she even offered to help whenever Batman might need extra technical assistance. Terry ultimately took Max up on this offer, utilizing Max’s tremendous skills with computers to aid Batman on numerous missions. Subsequent adventures saw Max helping Batman in taking down villains that included The Spellbinder, Curaré, Mad Stan and the terrorist organization, Kobra.

Actress Cree Summer provided the voice for Max, with the heroine first appearing in the eighteenth episode of the first season of Batman Beyond, ‘Hidden Agenda.’
