I carved up a few reproductions of medieval beasties found in manuscripts from the early 14th century this week.
I’ve already got 6 more transferred to linoleum & ready to carve. I’m trying to make a big collection of these because I think they’ll look so fun on garments or as bunting + it’s honestly a really fun exercise in studying gesture & characterization …… we’ve always desired to make up freaky deaky little dudes?? It’s hard wired, baked into our very humanity??

2/2 Jamiroquai; Linocut poster designed, carved and printed by me
Format: A3 Linocut (printed on 350 x 500 mm paper)
Paper type: Fabriano - 285/300gsm, (2 prints from each)
Quantity: 4 prints in total
Thoughts:
I found it interesting to experiment with not just creating a linocut of Jay himself but also adding the famous Buffalo Man to him since let’s be real these two can’t be separated.
The whole style I tried to give off is mostly inspired from the albums with similar glowing like effect in the background. (The yellowish glow to the animation was later on added digitally to visualise the sun glowing in space).
I took “Space Cowboy” who took over (The) ”A Funk Odyssey” and gave the poster a nice space like atmosphere.
Couldn’t be more glad about starting this project since it turned out better than expected!
Full format animation to this can be found on my Instagram (through the link in my profile) as 1/2 from now
