The silence after the storm
They won. Or... not really. In Nyas point of view. They survived. And the merged realms survived but-
She couldn't get out of bed.
She wasn't sure for how many days she has been in her room now already.
She send everyone away that knocked on her door till now.
She didn't want any of them.
She wanted her big brother.
Maybe, just maybe, he would come bursting into her room if she would stay here long enough. Just to drag her outside, or anoy her with random stories that wouldn't make any sense back and forth. Or maybe just to steal more hair ties from her, which usually led to Nya chasing him around the monastery.
She wouldn't mind this time. If only he'd come back.
It was surreal, that he wasn't here anymore. Sure, it wasn't the first time he, or any of them, dissapeared or seemed to be dead. And she knew he wasn't dead this time either.
But it was a bit different this time. After all the next opportunity to open a portal would be in over a thousand years or so. And humans simply don't live so long, not even her stubborn brother.
She wondered if this is how they all felt when she merged with the ocean. Did they all feel so helpless?
Someone knocked on her door.
"Nya?", Coles voice said through the door. "I brought you something to eat." He waited a few seconds, before speaking again. "I know you... wanna be alone right now. And we all understand that, but we're here when you wanna talk or just sit with any of us. We don't have to talk. Not at all. Not if you don't want to. I'd say we became professionals at not talking about our issues over the years-"
"Cole.", Nya interrupted him through the closed door. Her voice was hoarse from how long she didn't talked to anyone. "Thank you for the food. Just put it next to the door, please."
There was the sound of a plate being laid on the ground. Then the sound of Cole walking back from where he came from.
Then it was quite again. Nya heard nothing but the sound of her own breathing.
She closed her eyes.
She opened her eyes.
She was still without her brother.
She looked at the old, flame red Gi in her hands, that she's been holding onto for days now.
She wondered how there were still tears left in her body, when they wandered down her face.
