Mermaid AU
Hellcheer Prompt!
Merman Eddie is fascinated by the human world and loves watching the ships come and go, even if his faithful flounder Dustin warns him of the dangers of being seen. One evening he's drawn by some lively music and watches as a pretty girl dances. Suddenly a storm hits and the crew try desperately to save their vessel from sinking. The girl from before is thrown overboard and without a second thought Eddie plunges into the waves after her. He carries her to shore and places her gently on the sand. She coughs and splutters but she’s alive. He can’t help but brush back a strand of her golden hair and her eyelids flutter open before he can hide. For a second their eyes meet and he swears he can hear glorious music. Dustin yanks him away but it’s too late - he speaks to her - and she travels home daydreaming about his warm brown eyes. She knows she will remember that voice for the rest of her life. Eddie tells himself that he won’t seek her out again but when he finds a marble statue of her in the ship’s wreckage, he imagines what it would be like to dance with her. He suddenly wants to join the human’s on land and aches to be a part of their world. He hears tales about a magical hermit called Vecna who can grant his wish…for a price. Meanwhile the girl is similarly smitten. Princess Christine returns back to the palace and tells her parents she’s met the man she will marry. If she has to marry (for she is her father’s only heir), then she will marry her own choice. She begins to search the kingdom for the (human) man who pulled her from the sea.
Thanks @ivyodessa for the prompt!

These two were so cute!! I had to try to draw them, esp a small doodle of little middle schooler Eddie with a buzzcut at the talent show :) . I’d like to think that if they had a chance, they’d make eachother mixtapes so Eddie is listening to Madonna’s “Crazy for You” and Chrissy is listening to Black Sabbath’s “N.I.B” (”Touch me once and you’ll know it’s true”; “Some people say my love cannot be true”)

just imagine chrissy in the afterlife hearing the tail-end of ‘master of puppets’ because it transcends worlds, and then a few minutes later eddie arrives. there’s a big reunion, full of hugging and crying and chrissy slowly realizing he’s dead, and then he mentions the song (but not the dedication). and chrissy, not knowing the significance of this, tells him, “that’s my favorite song.”
eddie sobs.

In a universe where everybody lives, Chrissy and Eddie become a thriving couple and Corroded Coffin are a 90s sensation, every album the band releases has an intro song that's always titled C.C. It's not long, one minute max, mostly instrumental, or, on occasions, with a statement lyric, like an one-sentence poem, at the very end and, each time, it features a plethora of different instruments (piano, saxophone, flute, literally anything that Eddie can get his hands on), starting slow, almost acoustic, and then building up until the music reaches a crescendo, a powerful guitar riff wrapping up all the instruments nicely, so the sound matches the following typical Corroded Coffin songs perfectly. It's Eddie's personal touch to every album and nobody questions it; all the members of the band know that it's going to be such an intro song every time they're recording a new record. Their fans love these opening songs, categorizing every C.C. song into eras and looking forward to the new ones. Plus, it's a nice little detail, starting every album with their initials, their signature, on the very first song.
What comes to everyone's - their manager's, their producers', the rest of the band members', Chrissy's herself - surprise is Eddie's confession during an interview for the Rolling Stone magazine, after years of the band's on-going success, that the initials of their intro songs do not stand for Corroded Coffin but for Chrissy Cunningham, the name of the edgy rockstar's beloved wife, because she is the beginning of it all; the person who believed in him and the band when nobody else did, the person who was there for every up and every down, his loudest cheerleader, his steady rock, his biggest inspiration, his one and only love.
"Without Chrissy, I wouldn't be the person I'm today, this man, this musician. So, each album starts with a dedication to her, a 'Chrissy, this is for you' but in the language I know best; music." Eddie elaborates further on the question, leaving the people in the room stunned.

I’ve been drawing Eddie and Chrissy lately :)! The first one is a sketch for an idea I have where its a hellcheer version of Francis Tipton Hunter’s “Helping with Homework,” and the last one is a bit of a continuation of Eddie and Chrissy exchanging mixtapes--Chrissy is listening to ZZ Top’s “Pearl Necklace.” Also, I’m not sure if anyone else remembers Schoolhouse Rock! (it was already old when I was a kid), but it was an American educational program from the 70s and I thought it might be cute for them to bond over it - “3 is a magic number” is a personal favorite (x)!

inspired by this great edit by @thestarlesssaint : in an alternate universe, they meet again after 5 years and fell in love
Eddie remained there, in Hawkins with his uncle -until Wayne had a heart attack on a february's night, and their trailer became his trailer. Bills has to be paid, even for an outcast, so he took a job at the plant. Family tradition. Chrissy left 5 years ago for college and didn't come back, only for Christmas or other family reunions - until a phone call during her internship ("Your mother just had a stroke. We fear for her health.") and against any logic, she fears for it too. The two of them meet again for the first time at The Brick (the new bar following Benny's Burgers) that Chrissy entered for a phone call to her brother - something about their mother's drugs she has to buy at the pharmacy but she forgot the list made of complex names.... "Chrissy Cunningham." I know that voice. Her head turns slowly and finds a pair of warm brow eyes and a crooked grin by the counter, drinking a fresh Busch. "Eddie Munson," she replies back, using the same tone. "Well, Chicago’s air seems to suit you," he takes another sip of his beer and stands up, moving a step forward. He's still noticeably taller than her. "You look good." "You too. I mean, you look..." her hands gesture to his short hair, "different." "Yeah. Buzz cut. Again." The answer, alluding to their conversation at a picnic table years ago, relieves Chrissy -she is not the only one remembering every second of it. "It was highly suggested to me to do it when I was hired at the plant. Security things and stuffs like that... whatever. It is growing back." She smiles and wishes she didn't have to go to the pharmacy before closing time. It is so natural, easy, pleasant to be beside Eddie, contrary to all the other people from her past she bumped into during the last 48hours. When it comes to him, the perspective to know every details that happened in his life these past 5 years sounds captivating. "I’m very happy to see you Eddie," Chrissy whispers, and the way his hold around the Busch’ bottle tightens imperceptibly tells her that he returns the sentiment. "How are you?"

You know what's the saddest part about Chrissy and Eddie dying? That they never got to interact with Murray. The man that made Jancy happen. The man that knocked some sense into Jopper, regarding their obvious sexual tension. The man that would take a look at them and be like "Alright, you two, listen carefully. You had a crush on her since forever and you are in need of a bad boy to rock your dull world. Go find a room, confess your feelings and give each other some much needed relief, so, then, we can move on to more pressing matters, okay?"
