Actually I'm not sure i had any expectations at all. Full disclosure i picked this up #Cheap but actually thought i was getting a different film (i still haven't worked out the name of what i was thinking of)#But actually this was a really pleasant surprise. It has a few good things going for it. The three young leads are a major one #Basing a horror film around children is as risky business and can often fail but dorff denton and Tripp are all very likable #Special mention to Tripp who takes a part that could very easily have been annoying or cringeworthy but makes the character strangely #Compelling. There's also the practical effects which are sparsely used but grizzly and effective when they are. There's a bit of a tone #Shift half way through as the film moves from teen angst drama spookiness to all out horror but its handled quite well and doesn't jolt #Too much. This felt like it was tipping its hat to other horror films in places particularly the first two films in the House series and #Carpenter's Prince of darkness. But actually Prince and House 2 both came out the same year as this so maybe it's less inspiration and #More serendipitous. Something in the water in 87. Nice to get a positive brother sister relationship in this kind of film too #Good fun and surprisingly well made. Think the goonies with more abject horror.
