I will continue to uncontrollably dump the last 4 years of my life onto tumblr until I run out of things to post! Here's an old project of mine, GPU based boids that are designed to run in VRChat, shown in this lovely world right here https://vrchat.com/home/world/wrld_e9c2c3bd-fedc-4289-a8fd-c7151ffc3cdb They utilize SDF's that were developed alongside a raymarching shader for previewing bounds, and are more approximations of boids than anything. They don't have proper collision avoiding, but they are close enough. The complicated swarming behavior you can (kind of) see here comes from just 3 rules

1.> Dont crash 2.> Stay in groups 3.> Travel in the same direction as other

Being on VRChat a few concessions had to be made of course. VR performance is a little rough, its running on a Camera + Rendertexture loop instead of a proper compute shader, and vision and collision avoidance are approximated, but I'm happy with how they turned out.

The editor scripts I wrote are super fucking cursed, and just have bits of shaders straight up hard coded to past into .txt files to be read as shaders for generating variants of the SDF's, but eventually I'd like to return to this to get it polished up to the point where an actually sane individual could drop it into a world and get some nice fishies

i’m unwell (on hour three of attempting the set up to catch a single fish with a high chance of failure)

today i was looking at jellyfish care websites and r/jellyfishcare and i realize i really don’t know a lot about jellyfish. or ocean care

they are capable of incredibly odd shapes when conditions are not ideal. I know about balling and tacoing but i also saw a moon jelly without a bell, only consisting of its oral arms and that was really weird

also sea nettles are incredibly expressive. like many species they tuck in their tentacles while they feed but it’s a really jarring look. their bell movement slows and it’s really easy to mistake them for dead

also it’s possible for jellyfish to disappear overnight. they are 95% water so once they die, they can very easily dissolve without a trace. it’s actually kind of sad.

also apparently you need to have knowledge about caring for a saltwater aquarium, which I do not have. I know that you should keep ammonia down, salinity, pH, and temperature at a reasonable level for the animal you are caring for, and also get testing kits. but like. idk how to maintain those levels and stuff

#i was watching a video by uh #i think it was Cliff's Reptiles or something?#he said if you wanted to have the experience of touching a jellyfish then #putting shaving gel over a trashbag would be sufficient #and rubbing alcohol could simulate the feeling of their sting #that was really interestng #also I learned that aquarium jellyfish keeper is a job title and I want it so bad #or at least #I just want to keep jellyfish #i have a table that is going unused in my room it could work #unfortunately jellyfish are the more expensive species #you have to buy a special tank that cycles so they do not get stuck on any corners #well i guess that's what commissions are for #sigh #i'll set them up eventually #maybe when im not desperately trying to procrastinate on homework by rambling about jellyfish #mun rambles #jellyfish

We have a massive one today! Huge thanks to a close friend of mine who sent me every single bookmark of xiv resources she had. 💖

Additionally, a good handful of these resources were sourced from a list originally created by @rinhkitty, which you can find here. I have tried to include the more recent/active of the lot, so it's not a one-for-one. Thank them for a lot of the large scale resources you'll find below! ✨

As of 04/12, I have added the following resources (in no particular order) to Sea's Community Compendium for FFXIV Creatives:

LARGE SCALE

GARLAND TOOLS — Contains XIV resources such as Garland Data, everything database, crafting lists and equipment calculators; Garland Bell, gathering timers, collectable resources and hunt windows; and FFXIV Fisher, daily fishing windows, bait paths and catch checklist. Maintained by Clorifex Ezalor of Zalera.

OLD TUMBLR LAYOUT BY PIXIEL — While not XIV specific I know a lot of people aren't fans of the new Tumblr layout, so this is a fix that will revert it to an as close as possible approximation of the new one. I won't tag the creator as I don't think they're in the xiv community, but it's run by @/pixiel!

HOW TO CURSE LIKE AN ISHGARDIAN — Do you want to make the church blush? Do you want to incur the wrath of Halone? @stars-and-clouds has compiled a list of appropriate curses/swear words for you!

FINAL FANTASY XIV SIDEQUEST GUIDE - HEAVENSWARD EDITION — maintained by @chatty-moogle, this guide explores interesting sidequests in Heavensward that will give you more information about the lore, titbits about locals and other interesting information!

TRUST BANNERS FOR XIV — If you have ever wondered how people mimic the Trust banners used in XIV, look no further! @locke-rinannis has a template for you.

MAKING USE OF RECOMMENDATIONS — created by @autumnslance, this guide will help you make your recommendations tab useful rather than annoying.

Misc formatting as needed.

Added some additional clarification around large-scale discords/spaces; in particular: Large-scale community discords such as the XIV Reddit Discord, Hunts, GPOSE promotions and broad-space roleplay servers that harbour a large number of people and are publicly available to all. These may not have an RP focus but will assist in other aspects of the game. Also includes well-known tools/resources that are utilised by large groups of people and assist in gameplay elements.

Added a quick-jump menu to the bottom of each of the table of contents menus to assist in navigation.

Feeling suicidal?

Small things that can help:

Make your space safe. Remove any dangerous items & ask someone safe to hold ur meds etc.

Soothing soundscapes like rainforest, beach ambiance, etc. Even calming screensavers on YouTube like bubble aquariums and rainy moods, etc.

Vent, talk it out, cry it out, sleep it out

Angry yelling, into a pillow if you're concerned about noise

Allow yourself to feel bad. Nothing good comes from keeping it bottled up inside.

Music, art, dance, hobbies, distract with coping skills that engage ur body too

Soft blankets, teddy bears, comfort items

Allow your body to express it's pain. Cry, shake, shake ur shoulders, flail your arms, punch the air, stomp ur legs, scrunch up ur face in pain. It is okay to move! It is okay to make noise! It is okay to stomp around and pretend to be in a tantrum! This actually helps your body release pent up emotions! If ur worried about looking silly then find a private space to try some of these out.

Allow yourself to be destructive in other ways, like ripping up some old clothes or tearing pages out of a magazine

Normalize your feelings. You're not a bad person, but if you feel like you are then that's okay too.

Go outside, or look out the window

Remember that all emotions pass. This moment feels so big, and that's okay. It's gonna pass.

Simulate touch to your nervous system. Butterfly hugs (place a hand over your heart and lightly tap), self hugs, weighted blankets, hold comfort items to your chest. Something to signal to ur body that ur safe.

Leave sticky notes of encouragement around ur house. Ur favorite affirmations, words you really wish someone would say to you, and maybe some reminders that you are safe & strong & capable & you're gonna be okay

Moodboards, vent art, visualize and express your pain (can be gory & explicit. It's your pain, express it however you need to)

Think of yourself as being sick with a cold. You need a blanket and a bowl of chicken noodle soup. What kinds of things can help soothe you while you're feeling this way?

Big things that can help:

Make space for what you're going through

Learn how to say "no" to other people's bullshit more often

Talk about the bullshit that's dragging you down more often

Learn how to notice things that make you explode inside

Make the effort to commit to a hard change even if it's gonna be hard & ruffle some feathers

Even if those feathers "support you", even if you love them, even if they're your family or a close friend, if they're causing you more harm than good then it's time to let em go

Accept your current position. This means to stop denying & pretending that you're not feeling pain. There is no need for you to keep "sucking it up" until you're fucking dead. Accept that this is where you are so you can start to move towards a safer space.

Adapt a policy of genuine honesty with yourself and everyone else around you

Make an effort to complain a lot more than you do now, preferably in safer spaces that can support & hold space for you. That's actually gonna help you figure it out for yourself.

Be more selective with who gets access to your time and energy

Cut the dead weight & loose ends

Allow yourself to grieve and mourn a helluva lot more than you do now

Allow yourself to express your anger and disappointment at the world & the bullshit you've had to endure

Find ways to give back to yourself

Find ways to restore your faith in yourself & in humanity

Cultivate yourself a safe space

Prioritize safety, healthy communication, mutual respect, consent, boundaries, and self compassion

Dig in deeper with yourself, your thoughts, feelings, & emotions and start validating & finding ways to be more tolerable of yourself

Learn how to take a break when you need it

Find ways and inspiration to keep you going through the darkest moments

You are worth the effort. You are worth the effort to prioritize yourself, you are worth the effort to prioritize your health, stability, & peace of mind. Things aren't gonna change overnight, and these feelings of hopelessness may be too largely overwhelming to move by yourself. You've gotta start somewhere though. Baby steps. One foot in front of the other. You will get there.

Shijima's friendship with her friend Majime reminds me a lot of my own friendship with my friend with ADHD (although Majime could easily be read as autistic as well). She balances Shijima out well and doesn't judge her for her idiosyncrasies. In fact, no one really does, save for Shijima herself. A lot of the characters have their own quirks of communication, expressing themselves mainly through discussion of their interests, their physical presentations, and there actions. There's even a semi-verbal character. The entire world the story takes place in is idiosyncratic in itself, you're never quite sure where it stands in between a fantasy and a reality. also shijima and majime are like pretty gay."

i may not be able to write out actual fanfic but i can put out ideas that scratch my brain and make me scream into the void

SO

being hazel callahan’s passenger princess and going on night drives when you both can’t sleep

going to zoos and aquariums where she rambles out fun facts on her favourite animals

staring at the chains around her neck so often she notices and buys you matching ones (same thing with rings, even better if they’re from brittany’s jewelry business)

movie marathon dates under a blanket fort complete with fairy lights, fluffy blankets, and snacks

fidgeting with each other’s hands while having long talks about whatever

i’m a FIRM believer in cocky!hazel after a few months of dating. once she knows you’ll stick with her for the long run, she’s not as nervous and acts more flirty (lingering touches, cheesier words, etc)

she may not be able to cook but she’ll surely try and learn your favorite foods (i think she’s more of a baker since baking is kinda like chemistry and we all know how she feels about explosive reactions)

on that note, i do believe she’s top of her class in chemistry or physics (thinking about her tutoring you in those subjects but those study dates eventually lead to makeout sessions)
