i'm gatekeeping for now bc there's some details to work out but skk are district partners who fucking hate each other lmao. also there's some rly bad unresolved childhood trauma/tension that causes their mistrust and hate but ultimately it's just the two of them against the world (literally).

oda is their mentor for the games and adam is their escort (like effie basically)!! together they make up the fed up parents who are sick of the boys yet love them unconditionally. kouyou is their stylist and she's the one who coins their "double black" partnership in order to present a unified front for the audience

there's also other important characters like kunikida and atsushi and fyodor within the tribute pool itself that impact dazai n chuuya both directly and indirectly. this includes alliances outside of their partnership and also difficulties that test their loyalty and trust.

UHHHH idk how much to disclose but ultimately they still keep the two halves of the same soul like they are in canon bsd except i gave it a little twist. their dynamic is violent and sacrificial and ultimately ends in blood and betrayal due to the nature of the tragedy of the original story itself.

like soulmates that are so devilishly intertwined because they knit the threads of fate with their own hands ultimately bringing out each other's destructive tendencies. being on a level playing field where one is the sword and the other is the sheath but they both swap. do they bring out each other's humanity? yes. do they also bring about each other's downfall? yes.
