What is this girl's angle, I wonder? I mean, I do not hate that she extends a lot of grace (lol) to Kate, but I have to wonder why? I mean, it could be out of the goodness of her heart but that is only rarely narratively satisfying, ESPECIALLY given that she's the head of a group of hardasses.

Boy, this teacher for the best person on the planet award, I gotta say. And I'm sure some of it is that Rachel is not generally the person you see crying in the stairway. (LOOKING AT YOU ROSE) and so it makes people more likely to want to help you, because it's not a common thing for you to do. It implies an actual problem that is not always the case with people who cry all the time. But it is STILL very very generous of him to offer her a room, to have these feelings privately.

So they get a sort of power-based heartburn, which is alleviated by lemons. For some reason i find this hilarious, but also love that even when they don't have to fight, they still have to pay! There is always a cost, for mere existence, and we love that!
I also love Claire's "yeah, they're fuckin lemons" but my question is: Does everyone think lemons are disgusting? I actually like them? They're sour, yeah but I find them enjoyably so.

SO I am at this point somewhat married to my theory that Lula was a girl like this previously, and she was a survivior, and for that her eternal reward was to get to watch other girls fight and die, and I DO love that. So it makes sense to me that she would take all of this very personally, that she would want the girls to succeed, that she would want to feel like she'd done something in all of this.
So what is this whole thing about "what's to come?" I mean, I love the idea tht it absolutely can and will get worse, but what could possibly be going on with that? Does she feel death is not enough of a motivator?
LOVING, however, that she talks about this, and immendiately comments on her drink being bitter. WE know what is actually bitter, the way she'd forced to take these girls and take their lives from them, replacing them with another that they don't care about or want, but I love little things like that.

YES. Rachel not only is dealing with the fact that she is between life and death, that she has a duty she never asked for tied to whatever semblance of a life she has left, but also that her compatriots don't seem to grasp the situation they are in. They haven't made it to where Rachel is yet. They aren't even falling apart in the 'right' way because they haven't made it past the "Oh gosh! oh gee!" part of it.
And thank fuck someone is telling rose to shut the fuck up and that she's done nothing. Kate is also, yes, in massive fucking denial. And I don't blame her honestly, how do you deal with this crushing reality? how do you acknowledge that it is in fact the reality of what you're dealing with? How do you think about that and not go fucking crazy?

GOD YES THIS IS SO MANY THINGS I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED FROM MAGICAL GIRL SHOWS. How ARE you supposed to be normal when this is constantly hanging over your head like the doom of fucking damocles? Who the fuck cares about grades or boys or anything when you might die every night, fighting something for which you receive no thanks that you barely understand? I mean at least people who fight in the light have a spare hope of receiving some level of understanding or thanks. But no one can thank you for something hidden form view.
So you playact having a normal life, having normal interests, and no one wishes it was true more than you, but at a certain point doesn't that weight become some of the worst of all of it? To be between lives, and to have to lie about it?

Meanwhile, Rachel is taking everything out on the people who actually do, in their high school friend way, care about her. This is the most natural thing in the world, to lash out and pick fights with people who feel safe, but maybe also, it DOESN'T feel safe anymore, because NOTHING feels safe anymore, because everything is a fucking disaster now. Nothing makes sense anymore. So why not feel like they have all absolutely betrayed you? Like there's nothing in this world that you can trust?

I don't really care whether or not Kate stays on as a member of Grace, but if she wants to stay on as a member of Grace, and she wants to keep her school life as normal as possible, she needs to fucking act like a member of Grace. She can't all of a sudden be like, "Eh, when it involves these specific girls it's no big deal!' kate they are going to think you have formed a lesbian coven.
